This is a statue with observing. The statue of John "Gassy Jack" Deighton is located in the Gastown District, where Vancouver was born. Gassy Jack is considered the founder of Vancouver.

Worth a stop to read some of the history behind the statue, which is the most important aspect after all. We stopped for quite a while people were tracing the plaque at the bottom of the statue?? Unclear what that was about but difficult to...More

John Deighton, better known as Gassy Jack, due to his verbose manner and storytelling as a saloonkeeper, is known as the founding father of the neighborhood that is named after him, Gastown, which was the original core that grew into the larger city of Vancouver....More

This statue commemorates the verbose owner of a bar in the early days of Vancouver, BC. The name of this neighborhood as Gastown is attributed to this well-known character. If touring Gastown, this is a prominent feature and provides background for this funky part of...More

If you have the time, this seems to be a spot where a lot of people go to take a photo. Not the best statue in the world, but I found it rather clever. Happy snap.

Gassy Jack is a statue of Gassy Jack near Water street - on the intersection, in Gastown. It's not a very flattering statue... But seemed to be very popular with lots of tourists having their pictures taken next to him...

According to legend, this is the reprobate that Gastown (now Vancouver) was named after. British Columbia may never have had a town to rival Tombstone, AZ; but this little bit of history is about as close as we'll get. Note all the other touristy items...More

The pictures scarcely do justice to the ugliness of the face of Gassy Jack. The skin almost seems to be peeling off in layers. Not sure whether this was intended or not by the artist.
