Long Beach
About
Long Beach, the longest beach of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, spans an extraordinary 16km (10mi) along the west coast of Vancouver Island. Described by locals to be magical, you will be astonished by the amount of life that call the tidal pools home. You will be sure to find crabs, shells, starfish, sea urchins and much more. As the surf comes crashing in, you will find surfers from around the world carving through the peaks of the waves. As the water settles, it gracefully rides up the beach with peaceful trickles and shimmering light from the breathtaking sunset crossing the colourful horizon. Long Beach is truly a rejunivating getaway for all ages. Whether you're looking to kickback, explore, adventure, hike, surf, or just take one of those long walks on the beach, Long Beach has it all.

    Long Beach: A Shared Wonder
The two spectacular ocean villages on Canada’ Wild West coast — Ucluelet & Tofino — share a number of great things. Long Beach, which is certainly that at 10 miles, is one such shared wonder. The beach’s official address is 2040 Pacific Rim Highway, an address locating it in the Pacific Rim Park, which runs between Ucluelet — affectionately known to locals as Ukee — & Tofino. It is a favorite spot for residents of both ocean communities, which are 26 mile apart, non-identical twins with many similarities, & both face the powerful Pacific Ocean. Long Beach also attracts visitors from outside of the region. These include a significant number of surfers, who come to join the locals on the waves. Surf is consistent & it can surely be described as perhaps the best surfing beach in Canada, & if not that, one of the best in this ocean stretch, a stretch which includes neigbouring & popular beaches — Cox, Chesterman, Mackenzie, Wick & Flo. Long Beach is also perfect for long walks, of course, & many bring their dogs with them to traverse the sand, play @ the shore, & depending on temperature, a swim in the ocean. Also good for sitting with family & friends or just gazing out at the awesome Pacific, watching those waves pound in from points afar. Ah, to the other great things these two ocean village share. Both also have a wonderful selection of places to eat & drink at — with both punching above their weight on the culinary front, given both have relatively small resident population in the 2,000 range. The truly fabulous Tofino Ucluelet Culinary Guild (TUCG), a farm to table non-profit, offering a wide range of local produce is shared, as it has delivery points weekly in both villages. Another shared gem, is the inspiring Ucluelet Secondary School (USS) which has pupils from both. Pupils are bused in daily from Tofino to USS, which has opened this past year again after a fantastic rebuilt & is under the headship of the impressive Drew Ryan & staff. Many trans village friendships are formed. Many good things shared & enjoyed together by these twinned wonders. Posted by S Fuller

Long Beach is a Canadian Treasure!
Long Beach in Tofino is a magical place, a true Canadian Treasure! You never know what the weather will be, but hopefully it's a clear day and you can see for miles. There is plenty of paid parking, and several clearly marked entrances to the beach, along with warning signs for the dangerous currents and rip tides. We first used access point number 4, but then drove a little way further down the beach where there are change rooms and washrooms. It's also here that there are beautiful small treed islands sitting on the beach, and at low tide you can actually walk all the way around them; that was pretty cool and a terrific photo opportunity too!

A Place to Breathe out all your Stress
this is a place where you can relax after a long term stress. you can breathe out all your stress pain and anxiety. Here, only you and the ocean before your eyes are real, Everything else doesn’t matter at all. It’s been a month since I have taken a break from my classes, works, and the only chance I have got, didn’t even think twice to have a long drive of 300km, just to visit this beach, and after a long, hectic journey I have made it here and it was worth it. Perfect place if you consider walking around, relaxing, surfing, sunbathing.

Beautiful Long Beach is a provincial park and surfer’s dream. It is very accessible from Port Alberni or highway #4 from Nanaimo. It’s before the former Christie residential school (moved from Meares to Tinwis/Naciks’) now Best Western hotel, just outside Tofino. Long Beach is the opposite side of Templar Channel /Clayoquot Sound UNESCO biosphere. With Pacific swells and the sandy stretch to Esowesta Reserve and Casiiwa (tsa-shii-wa) Incinerator Rock, you get a quiet piece of paradise at the Long Beach provincial park. Like @Wickaninnish you’ll see beautiful flowerpot type rock formations with a mountainous backdrop. As at other beaches in the area, there’s excellent surf conditions. Call 24-hour Parks 250-726-3604 for info., or
SurfForecast .com for tide swell (4-6 ft) waves and wind.
Alternatively, if you don’t want to make trips to rent surfboards and wetsuits in town (5 minutes away), then head to one spot @Cox Bay for lessons and rentals. ElsieJay has everything you need to know if heading to similar destinations in and around Tofino. From the “at your own risk” government dock a 40 min. boat ride from Tofino also allows visitors to explore beaches on Flores Island that’s Ahousaht reserve land. The cost of a water taxi /charter to Flores Island is costlier but would give a simpler and quieter experience in nature. It’s possible to visit First Beach @Ahousaht Wellness Centre soon as well; or camp on Ahousaht First Nation land with bear-proof box provided. If you call or email the First Nation office to provide you with a list of boat operators...ask for Luke Robinson (Elsie-Jay Co.) or Tom Campbell (G.I. Charles): 1 250 670 9563. Remember to pack food & water, and everything that goes in must come out (including garbage). Otherwise, Long Beach is splendid, and a public washroom is beside the parking meter facing the wolf carvings. Individual admission is $6-10 or pay a family parks fee/pass for about $12 to stay as long or as little as you like. You won’t be sorry you came!

And when the sun is out the beaches are amazing for just sitting and catching some rays while you listen to the surf.

The 16 km length of Wickanninish Bay includes 4 beaches ( Schooner, Long, Combers and Wickanninish) and is NOT a continuous swathe of sand. Long Beach is separated from Combers Beach to the south by a rocky headland at Green Point.
This is where we returned back to Schooner and which took about 2 hours.
Wow! What a hike, there was no one else at Green Point, not a soul.
I stood at the rocky point and saw Combers Beach and Wickanninish Beach stretching south for another 8 kms.
That hike is on our list for another time.
Perhaps in summer if camping at Green Point.

Epic journey, powerful ocean waves, surfers in dry suits on the waves, 16 km of long beach. Great walking place. Bog trail is very magical.

The views are spectacular! I love every second of being on that beach. So much so that my partner next summer is going to go back and get some lessons so we can surf it! Beautiful white sand, lots of space, and dogs were off-leash and running around but not bothering anyone. Just wonderful. We had my 4-year-old, husband, and grandparents with us and we all loved it there. By far my favorite beach in Tofino.
