We stayed on the Sunchaser with Dan for six days photographing the grizzlies. It was everything we wanted and more. Saw 7-12 bears each day.

Wow! What an incredible experience. This place is pristine wilderness at its best. Grizzly bears in their natural habitat doing what grizzly bears do. How privileged to get to see them up close and personal.

Tour boats are only allowed so far into the estuary, so it's pot luck whether you will get "close" to a bear or not. It is however the most beautiful place - and kudos to the people keeping it that way! There are two guides...More

Took the Adventure Tours' fast and very seaworthy catamaran in late June from Prince Rupert to the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary for an unforgettable viewing of six adults and three cubs. Located deep in a spectacular fjord the preserve is home to a stable population...More

We made a long trip to see only one young bear on our bear watching trip. Yet it was great, in part because the crew were great and the scenery spectacular, but largely because we saw whales, dolphins orcas and seals and eagles.

This sanctuary is a gem of British Columbia. This type of pristine, untouched by man wilderness is exactly why I'm an advocate for the environment. We need to protect more areas, travel here you you will understand why.

When is the best time to be there for seeing Grizzlies?

Response from walvisch | Reviewed this property |
Late April, May. When they are hungry after winter and in search of food.
I was wondering if the bears are easily seen in June on a day trip from Prince Rupert. I know the salmon haven't started their migrations at that time, but will be in the general area and wanted to see the bears, if possible. Thanks!

There is a day-trip boat company on Rupert waterfront that will show you bears in June that are feeding on sedge at the waters edge, or if you go near mud flats in estuaries the bears are digging clams and worms.

We went with SunChaser Grizzly Bear Tours. They re one of only 2 tour operators who can go all the way into the estuary to see the bears. Rustic but highly worth it.
