Nanaimo Museum: Discover Nanaimo’s fascinating history in our new museum located in the VI Conference Centre. The main gallery offers a sense of what life was like for Nanaimo's earliest settlers and the Snuneymuxw First Nation. Our award winning replica coal mine is a special treat. The museum also manages the Bastion, an original Hudson's Bay Company post built in 1853. Don’t miss the gift shop!Museum Hours: 10am - 5pm Monday to SaturdaySummer Hours: Open Daily 10am - 5pm

A small; but well designed museum that revisited the mid-island regions history. Signage and displays are well done and on occasion there is an individual group or historical event that is highlighted in the 'entry'. The museum store is also not to be missed, beautiful...More

On a recent visit to Nanaimo, we visited the Nanaimo Museum and it's still a great buy for a low admission. Certainly a "not to miss" tourist experience. As it's only one floor, there are no barriers for accessibility, and since it's multi-faceted, there's something...More

Interesting and full of information, but a bit boring for younger kids:( I enjoyed it greatly and learned a bunch about coal miners but didn't stay as long as I would have liked due to my kids becoming tired and bored.

It is a small museum but they pack in a lot. If you at all have an interest in history I would recommend a visit. You can do it in under an hour.

OK, I know that civic museums can be snore fests, too long, too little of interest, and so on. But this small museum is a gem! As Nanaimo is a city with some age and history, it is a glimpse back into the lives of...More

Good displays of local history, logging, first nations, coal mining ( they have a life size pit tunnel area which you can walk through).

The Museum is my go to shopping place for gifts. Check out the Nanaimo umbrellas and the baby gifts. When I am looking for a special gift it is the best shopping in town. The Museum is SO informative and interesting. If you haven't been,...More
