Nanaimo Museum: Discover Nanaimo’s fascinating history in our new museum located in the VI Conference Centre. The main gallery offers a sense of what life was like for Nanaimo's earliest settlers and the Snuneymuxw First Nation. Our award winning replica coal mine is a special treat. The museum also manages the Bastion, an original Hudson's Bay Company post built in 1853. Don’t miss the gift shop!Museum Hours: 10am - 5pm Monday to SaturdaySummer Hours: Open Daily 10am - 5pm

Even though being a pastry chef, I was really only after the oldest known recorded Nanaimo bar recipe, this museum was full of other interesting things. The history of Nanaimo is actually quite interesting in that it is directly tied to Canada's oldest corporation, The...More

Where else can you go for $2 and be entirely entertained for over an hour. The museum offers many different exhibits that will catch your interests. The coal mining exhibit was by far one of the best little exhibits. Lots of history and artifacts to...More

We enjoyed our visit but it isn't a great place for toddlers. There were displays honoring notable people who came from Nanaimo. Lots of items to buy in the gift shop.

Charming museum with interesting and well presented exhibits of Nanaimo's past. Indigenous culture is well represented in a meaningful way. Coal mine exhibit is a must see... interactive and informative.

A small; but well designed museum that revisited the mid-island regions history. Signage and displays are well done and on occasion there is an individual group or historical event that is highlighted in the 'entry'. The museum store is also not to be missed, beautiful...More
