Big selection
Aug. 2016 • Couples
Big selection of wines to taste with Calona Wines and Sandhill Wines in adjacent rooms, so you should be able to find one or two that you like. The people conducting the tastings in each room were both personable and accommodating.

Great for Variety
Aug. 2016
Calona owns a handful of different types of wine from Sandhill to Wayne Gretzky. The Sandhill Winery tasting room is attached to Calona so you can hit both tasting rooms in one stop. The Calona side of the tasting room is much more authentic and rustic looking giving a great atmosphere, but could definitely benefit from some A/C. It was nice to try a variety of wine from the different vineyards all in one spot.

Excellent Wine Tasting Experience
Jul. 2016 • Couples
We went wine tasting here (2 couples) and had a wonderful experience. Our wine tasting guide was so knowledgeable and had a most pleasant personality. He talked about the history of Calona Vineyards from the early days until now. He also talked about the Wayne Gretzky wines. We ended up buying a few of their wines because they were so good. There was plenty of parking across the street. If you are right in Kelowna do check this winery out.

OH MY! What Yummy Wines!
Jul. 2016 • Couples
Thanks to Kim for such an educational and engaging discussion of some the best wines we have tasted this week. Ones we have never seen in our liquor store, but we will be hunting for from now on. Taste buds are dancing with the yumminess. Thank you again and you will be hearing from us soon about arranging to have some of these lovely wines making a trip North.

Wines tasted today...Wayne Gretsky Cab Sav/Syrah 2014, Signature Series Pinot Noir 2014, Conviction White (ooooohhh my!)

Good, affordable wines. No vineyard at this location however.
Aug. 2015
Combined with Sandhill winery, Calona is the older sister winery downtown Kelowna and produces their original brand of wines along with the Wayne Gretsky wines we Edmontonians are familiar with. Calona wines are affordable and tasty, although once we tasted teh Sandhill varieties, we opted to pay a little extra to take some of those home. On a budget though, I don't think there is a lot of better wine around Kelowna than Calona. Only constructive feedback is that they might want to stop calling a winery in the warehouse district 'Calona Vineyards' because it gives people the expectation that they're going to a vineyard. Well worth the visit though, if you'd like to try some excellent, affordable wines.

Rude!
Aug. 2014
I was driving home from Penticton on Sunday and decided to stop for a wine tasting..

1. Sandhill side- the man behind the counter ignored us

2. When we asked 'Rik' (our tastings server) which wine he recommended to try for our tasting he said 'I dont know, they are all on the wall behind
you, go look.' Then he continued to put bottles away.. He poured us one tasting to share between the two of us..

3. No history lesson or information behind the production

4. All staff ignored us

Great winery in an urban setting
Jul. 2014 • Couples
We stopped at this winery for the "SandHill" winery part (as opposed to Calona) as our first stop after landing in Kelowna. The staff was very friendly and we tasted some excellent wines that offered great value for the price. A good place to stop if you're in the Kelowna area.

DO NOT MISS!
Jun. 2014 • Couples
I can’t name the very best part of this visit because there were so many highlights. This is not your pretentious winery. This place has good people, serving very good wine at very affordable prices.

We started in the back room with Mark?? The backroom is in the older part of the building and you can examine the artifacts of the business. We looked through the history and various incarnations of the business – remarkable. We had a tasting in the backroom. I was truly surprised by the Wayne Gretsky reds. As much as I love Wayne (and that’s a lot) how much money does this guy need – and he may know how to drink it, but does he know how to make it? Well, apparently he does! They were pretty good.

Mark?? suggested we try some of the Sandhill wines and escorted us through the reception area into the new Sandhill wing. We were served by Ross. A very nice young fella. He knows his stuff – very impressive.

Howard stopped by – it’s late Saturday afternoon. We joked around. We made Ross blush a bit. Oh yeah, Howard Soon is the wine maker – we were told he was instrumental in starting the Sandhill brand for Peller and according to their website, won the 2009 Canadian Winery of the Year.

Take a lesson other wineries – it was Saturday afternoon – Howard had time for us.

Ross poured us a glass from a batch that they only made 100 cases – wow.

This was our 5th winery of the day and clearly the best on so many levels. We bought some wine, great wine for $20 a bottle which I would compare to a $40 bottle. We joined the wine club – we never do that – that Ross is slick! Then it came time to check out – even the checkout young lady had a effervescent personality – Ross gave us a free parting gift.

What’s not to luv? Minutes from downtown Kelowna, free parking, easy to find. Wonderful, bright, polite, unpretentious people working together to make guests feel special. The back room with historic artifacts & a speakeasy feel and a large, open, clean, modern minimalist tasting room all under one roof.

Thank you for welcoming us.

Fun experience
Jul. 2013 • Friends
Wasn't sure what to expect from this winery, but was pleasantly surprised. It was a bright day out thankfully as the power in that area was out when we arrived. There were a couple of tours finishing up and staff were fantastic in making sure we were able to sample some different wines regardless of the power outage. We did end up buying a few different bottles, which were all great. Worth the visit!
