The Secwepemc Museum & Heritage Park is located along the banks of the beautiful South Thompson River. The Secwepemc Museum & Heritage Park consists of both an inside and outside viewing experience for visitors. The tour of the museum offers a rich history of the life of the Secwepemc people. Once inside the museum visitors can view "The Land of the Secwepemc" DVD, and can then immerse themselves in the beautiful artefacts and displays within the four galleries that are offered.Afterwards, the Heritage park offers a trail of over a kilometre of archaeological remains of a 2,000 year old Secwepemc winter village. The winter village consists of 1 reconstructed winter pit-houses, and summer tule mat lodges which feature various unique food preparation structures. In addition; for viewing pleasure, is one of Kamloops Marshes that is filled with beautiful wildlife and visitors may even be able to get a glimpse of the Coyote (Skelep) and her pups that are currently living in the area.

A really good glimpse and insight into local aboriginal culture, run by the local band. I think it was a little smaller than I was anticipating but would probably be more interesting to visit without a snowcover over the majority of the outside portion of the park.

Gives a great synopsis of the Territory and its people. Was great to see other First Nations culture as well, which speaks to the oneness of all First Nations people. The staff is welcoming and knowledgeable; Tracy and Jordan are awesome, ask them about local tours of their territories!

Gives a great insight into the local aboriginal history with introductory video, indoor and outdoor exhibits. The staff are lovely and willing to help with question of further education. A great local not-for-profit community initiative, please support them.

This is a excellent museum with lovely grounds. They were very welcoming and we learned a huge amount about the history of the Secwepemc people. I would encourage people to visit the museum. The lady who was at reception when we visited was very kind in explaining some of the history.

We thought this museum was a must see in Kamloops. we were disappointed because the museum exhibits are not really updated with very new things. the garden was overgrown - what a pity!!!! we came on foot from the Riverland Inn and found signage to get to the museum difficult. It's part of history but 10 CAD entrance fee is... More

Avoid this place like the plague. Rudely greeted and told they were closed and had to leave. So i sat in my van to check my map to see where I was and told no, leave right now I told you... In 6 months of travel, the worst customer service i have seen by far. Would rate this a zero... More

First of all- great staff. Wonderful people going out of their way to share culture and help experience the museum and what it offers. Interesting indoor display gallery with a big archaeology display and some amazing artefacts from Secwepemc culture. However, some of the interp panels seem pretty old and a bit dated---actually quite dated in terms of presentation and... More

Our visitors from Australia and New Zealand have been amazed at historical details and we'll displayed artifacts. They all commented on what a great place this was to catch up on local Aboriginal history. We took a self guided tour in both cases and were welcome to take our time as we toured indoor and outdoor facilities.

I work in the TteS Education Department which oversees the Secwepemc Museum. It honestly warms my heart to see so many great reviews and knowledgable responses to each experience that comes through our museum. There's so much hard work that the staff endures daily to upkeep the revitalization and knowledge of our culture and language. And for so many such... More
