About
One of the oldest Estate Wineries in all of British Columbia, Blue Grouse is truly a magical place! Nestled on a 65 arce piece of unspoiled Cowichan Valley countryside, this winery and vineyard produces some of the most awarded wines on the entire island! From Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Ortega, Bacchus and the very rare Black Muscat, Blue Grouse produces new classic wines from old island vines.

The only disappointment on our wine tour. Tasting pours were minuscule, minimal information on the three wines they had given us, all three tasting were poured at once with a very short description and no hand out to help explain all the wines that were available. The view and building was impressive but it was the only winery we visited that we did not make a purchase.

Totally unimpressed. Would have been nice to have been given more of a choice of wines, not just their driest wines. I know that's the 'thing' now, but honestly, not everyone is a fan of dry wines. They could maybe think of asking people if they wanted to sample the dry wines or a mixture. And honestly, offering water for the table with paper cups is a little on the tacky side. The views here are outstanding but it felt too commercial, and yes I know they're there to make money, but the whole experience was disappointing.

We dropped in on our way to Victoria and we were able to book a 3 wine tasting each. My wife tried 3 whites and I tried 3 reds. All were delightful on the nose and palette. We liked all six. Our wine steward was Alexandra and she did a fine job explaining the various wines and the history of the winery.

A visit to Blue Grouse is an opportunity to drink in a magnificent Valley setting, an architectural delight and taste delicious wines which showcase the Cowichan Valley's cool climate approach. We drank Rosé, an off-dry white, Bacchus and Ortega. The staff is attentive, well-trained and responsive to our needs as we picnicked outside beside spring time vines. This is a must-see winery in the Valley.

All the right ingredients… good staff, pleasant ambience overlooking and adjacent to a vineyard, a wonderful charcuterie plate, wine to our taste, countryside setting, reasonable prices, reservations if you don’t want to take pot luck. aAND, if you have a sunny day - perfect. Who could ask for anything more.

The winery is in a beautiful location and in a a stunning building! We had a reservation and were welcomed and shown to a table on the patio for our tasting. After quite a wait, someone came to provide us with wine. The wines were all poured one after the other and we were left to taste on our own. The server did give us a very brief explanation of each wine, and there was a list for reference, but that list also included wines not being tasted. This left us to our own devices, which was fine, but there was not opportunity to ask follow-up questions.
A fair number of their wines are German varietals, and some were not wines we had encountered before. After our tasting time, we paid our bill and were on our way.

There were many staff in the area, the facility does have a boutique as well, but we were not eager to engage in conversation about the wine, as it seemed asking questions was not encouraged.

I have been to many, many wine tastings both in the U.S. and in Canada and belong to wine clubs, have taken courses, etc. yet I felt intimidated. Obviously not an experience I would recommend despite the beautiful space.

Nice location. Very helpful and attentive staff . We had a five wine taster flight and our server explained in detail each wine. We enjoyed them all although the majority were not good value in our humble opinion. We did enjoy the Quill white and red blend. Sample servings were adequate and there was lots of time to enjoy the wine. Limited menu but typical for a winery.

It was a hot day and we wanted to take a nice relaxed wine tasting at Blue Grouse. It's a fairly expansive property and their patio is well known for the view.

We didn't have a reservation, so we had to wait a bit for a table.

They sat us on the picnic table outside which was nice.

The only thing I didn't like is that they pre pour all of the wines before seating you and explain the wines from left to right in order. It's hard to remember everything that is said about the wine and on a hot day, they get warm and I think that takes away from the tasting, especially for the whites.

It sounds like it is something that got started during Covid. If so, it should be removed.

We were there on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon, sat outside. The wine was excellent and the service was also really good, from the person who greeted us at the door to the woman who took our order. I'll definitely return!
