My wife and I walked over the High Bridge to join hundreds of others on a stroll up and down this old town. We luckily chose the Chianti Cafe and Restaurant located in the Old Post Office for our lunch, a good choice among many, many others.

Favourite part of Edmonton! Though the restaurants change with time, there are always lots of great places to eat and drink. There are more chain stores than there used to be, but still lots of independent shops featuring everything from First Nations art to goth and clubwear, jewellry, books, flowers, organic produce and an abundance of clothing and accessories. There... More

Worth spending a few hours. Check out the market. Lots of restaurants, bars and cultural venues. There are some unique boutiques not found in the malls for shopaholics.

The Saturday market has interesting vendors and lots of opportunities to buy fresh local food, always a plus in my book. BEWARE: Parking can be an issue. You must be sure to use the e-park system if not in the free parking areas. We were visiting from out of province and were not familiar with this system. We needed to... More

Most common area of Whyte Ave. Usually some arts folks hanging out outside. Cheap drinks on one side of the street, trendy restaurants and pubs all around. Best part is that here you can do things, like park. The farmer's market is in this area. Some parks (go ride the train to city hall - the old fashioned train in... More

There is always something interesting going on in Old Strathcona. New stores are often opening, new restaurants and bars as well, in addition to old favorites. Try to make it down for the Fringe festival or Ice on Whyte, or any of the other festivals that take place here.

I regularly visit this area: so much going on and many interests. There is an indoor farmers market every Sat., so many different businesses on Whyte and area to explore: everything from quaint bistro's and second hand shops to high end boutiques. The restaurants are as varied as the people that you see. When the weather is nice you will... More

Ok, I have to say this ... I've never been "wowed" by Edmonton. My brother and family live there, so I have been far more often that I'd ever have imagined. But it has never seemed like a place I could get right with. Then I discovered Whyte Ave (82nd Ave). It is as close to (Toronto's) Queen West as... More

Old Strathcona is an absolutely amazing place to take in some of Edmonton's most incredible scenes throughout the year; from the Old Strathcona Farmers Market to the annual Fringe Festival, which this year played host to over 800,000 enthusiastic visitors there is always something making the streets come alive. Definitely a must-see spectacle during the summer should you be a... More

I am a huge lover of heritage, especially as it pertains to old buildings. To be honest, my desire to head down to Old Strathcona has waned over the years as more specialty, quaint boutiques have moved out, and the drinking establishments have taken hold. The Market and the live play theatres in the area probably save it for me,... More
