NICKLE GALLERIES is on the University of Calgary campus on the main floor of the Taylor Family Digital Library at 410 University Ct. N.W. The NICKLE was first established with an initial donation by Sam Nickle. In addition to its vast array of ancient coins, the museum also possesses Asian carpets and textiles as well as an important collection of art from Western Canada. Lectures, gallery talks and other events are offered during the academic year (Sept-April). Hours: Mon.-Fri. 10-5 (also Thurs. 5-8), Sat. 11-4, Sept.-Apr.; Mon.-Fri. 10-5, rest of year. Closed major holidays.

A very nice gallery space on the University campus, with a great temporary exhibition just now on hooked rugs, vintage and contemporary. However, the signage on the campus is rubbish - we had huge problems finding it - no wonder we were the only visitors....More

While the exhibition of Canadian painter John Hall had many paintings I found I was not moved by the artwork or the installation itself. The space is open and well lit. There is no fee to view. We were the only people in the space.

Loved the changing collections of art, not always my taste but always interesting. Parking is always an issue on campus: expensive and liable to fines if not prompt. This museum is a gem.
