Fort Calgary was founded in 1875 when the NWMP crossed the Bow River and laid the foundations for Calgary at the place where the Bow meets the Elbow River; land that has been sacred to the Blackfoot people for thousands of years. Today, Fort Calgary’s interpretive centre allows you to explore the rich heritage of Calgary and the RCMP. The large outdoor park area is a great way to enjoy the river landscape, and offers unique views of downtown Calgary. Fort Calgary offers meeting and event spaces, as well as special events on many holidays.

I really enjoyed this museum. The exhibits were engaging (even if they tried a little to hard to be up to the minute, lots of Facebook references). The centre is in a lovely area so it's worth a walk even if you don't go in.

As a history major in college, I've been to a lot of historical locations. I think Fort Calgary may be one of the best I've visited. The history as told through social media was brilliant! My husband and I learned a lot while laughing heartily....More

It helped that I had very little knowledge if the area so the museum was very useful fir me. Set out very easy to follow and expect children would like it. Nothing fabulous but certainly worth an hour of your time.

The fort itself no longer exists, but there is a museum which costs $12.00 per adult. We didn't go in as the history isn't that interesting for us, but we did walk around and enjoy some of the information boards which are spread throughout the...More

The Fort is a bit of a walk from downtown Calgary but worth a trek if you can make it. The actual fort is no longer visible although plans are in place to restore it I believe. The visitors centre provides the main attraction which...More

Thank you for your visit! There have been two fort restorations since the original one was built. In 2003, the fort burned down. Because restoring the fort a third time would not be sustainable over the long term, we commissioned the art installation as a...More

Not a large museum but has interesting display. Kids or adults can try on different RCMP uniforms. Have recreated small town.

There was a lovely young man who wasn't a "real Mountie" was very happy to get photographs with the public. You should go to the Calgary Stampede and watch an event the RCMP perform. They are all in full uniform and are very... More

The red serge is a ceremonial uniform and so we only see the Mounties dressed this way on special occasions. Fort Calgary is an historic site and interpretive museum with no resident serving Mounties.
