Johnson lake was a great little spot. Oh can swim in the lake (although chilly, you soon get used to it). It wasn't very known so not too busy. Also offers a few places to walk/hike. There are picnic benches around so can even have...More

Not so well known, hence low human traffic here. Do drop by for some lovely photo shots by the lake and perhaps in the woods; elderly may need a trekking pole.

We did the Minnewanka Loop and visited Lake Johnson several times during our week in the Canadian Rockies. We were rewarded with beauty, wildlife (bears, sheep), many photo ops, and serenity. Don't miss this area.

Beautiful easy walk around a well cleared trail. Gorgeous views and a lovely pair of loons calling back and forth.

We hiked Johnson Lake (which is an easy 3 km stroll around this small lake), had lunch along Lake Minnewanka and then hiked the Stewart Canyon & Cascade River/Canyon Trail (7.7km). The GPS was an asset in keeping us on the Canyon trail that seemed...More

This lake is perfectly clear and was warmer than expected. Quite busy, but that is to be expected with the proximity to Calgary. There were quite a few paddle boards and kayaks on the lake, but it did not pose a problem.

There is a trail around Johnson lake, about 3km I think, that we hiked with our 6 and 8 year old. It a great trek with nice views of the lake and up into the trees a bit. The lake has a small sand beach...More
