What can I say?!? This was our first visit to Banff and we didn't want to miss Lake Moraine, despite our aversion to crowds of tourists and having to take shuttles. The shuttle process was quite a hassle, but it beat spending the day waiting for a parking space for the car or RV to open up. We had to take a shuttle from the Lake Louise Park n Ride to Lake Louise and then another to Lake Moraine. Took about 1.50 hours, including time in ticket lines and waiting for shuttle. That being said, don't let it all dissuade you from making the trip. All the Park staff and shuttle operators are friendly, helpful and do everything they can to make the process as enjoyable and fun as possible. Big shout out to all the staff at Banff National Park! You guys do an amazing job.

Most tourist spots don't live up to the hype. This place does and then some. The color of Lake Moraine is unreal, takes your breath away, no photo you've ever seen can prepare you for this place.

It was quite cold when we arrived, so we hit gift shop to warm up before hitting trails. Got a couple of coffees in the cafe and Ryan, the barista, strongly recommended that we do Larch Valley Trail, because the Larch trees were gold and it was beautiful. He also said we could take the Sentinel Pass Trail from there if we felt up to it. So we did. Experience of a lifetime. Larch Valley Trail was a moderate hike, lot of switchbacks but all doable and not extreme. I'd never heard of Larch trees and could've never imagined they existed but, wow, what a discovery. They're a type of evergreen that turns colors in the fall, to a beautiful vibrant gold that blankets the slopes. Words really can't describe it. Even the heavy foot traffic on the trail couldn't take away from the joy hiking it and seeing all that beauty.

When we got to the view of the Ten Peaks, we were speechless. Just thrilled we did it. The peaks look like something out of Lord of the Rings or CG. Just majestic and then pair them with bands of gold Larch and rich green spruce and firs, and it's out-of-this-world. Larch Valley Trail has two stunning views that aren't back breaking and well worth the effort. A few of us headed to Sentinel Pass, just for the challenge of it, it was 5 steep switchbacks of loose shale up to the pass overlook. In my opinion, worth it. Temperature drops up there, started sleeting while we were shooting photos and has a very savage, brutal view on the other side of craggy cliffs and rock formations. Very exotic. Loved it. But you don't have to do Sentinel Pass to enjoy Larch Valley or the Ten Peaks.

When the snow and cold wind finally drove us off the trail, we headed back down and got hot chocolate in the cafe and thanked Ryan for his wonderful suggestions. While I was outside trying to photograph the raven that was hanging around the table there, she actually stole the cookie I just bought! I went back to the cashier, and she told me that they called the raven Sasha and she stole whatever food she could get her beak on. Crazy raven! What a story!

So, don't miss Lake Moraine or the Larch Valley Trail. And if you've got an adventurous streak and like to climb, Sentinel Pass has your name on it.

Busy but beautiful trail

We got to Banff mid morning during peak season (mid August) and had to use the shuttle system to get from location to location. It works but it's slow, and I get why they do it. So be prepared to be patient and ask the staff questions if you aren't sure about what you are doing. They are very helpful folks! Once we got to Moraine Lake we set off on the trail to Eiffel Lake. The switchbacks to gain elevation were crowded, but once the trail forked, there were less people. The lookback views to Moraine were fantastic as the lake was an incredible color. After a couple miles the trail leveled out and it was an easy hike to Eiffel with incredible mountain views. Definitely recommend this trail, and also heard that Sentinel Pass is fantastic as well from chatting with others on the way back down.

WOW!

Not exactly sure how to describe this location...it was a 20 minute drive from Lake Louise, but well worth it. If we had visited 2 days earlier, or earlier in the summer we'd have had to take a shuttle, but as it was, we found parking at the site (probably by going at 7 PM). It was amazing. The mountains seem to rise right up out of the lake...and the reflections were terrific and the color of the water...stunning. The only drawback we found was how difficult it was to take photos without other people in the picture.

Valley of the Ten Peaks could have easily been called Valley of the Ten Mountains as you are literally surrounded by steep cliff faces capped with snow. A wilderness experience.

Did the Valley of the Ten Peaks hike with Ed as our guide. One of the best days; Ed was was really intresting, effortlessly leading the hike and passing on his knowledge of the geography, flora (we saw lots) and fauna (we saw lots). And of course pausing for the views of the lake and mountains. If you like being outdoors then this is one not to be missed.

Beautiful Mountain Peaks all around

Parking near Lake Morraine was a challenge. They have a small parking lot and NO shuttle. By 8 am cars were parked a mile down the road. Many visitors only go to/from the lake making it difficult for day hikers to find parking.
Although crowded- worth the hassle!
Another beautiful glacial lake. A color you can't image!
Hike up towards Eiffel Lake/Larch Valley- Climb up switchback trail through forests- only a few views back towards Lake Morraine. Once at the fork in the trail- you have an option to go towards Larch Valley (2 km uphill) or Eiffel Lake (3 km flatter). Both provide excellent views of the Valley of Ten Peaks. Larch Valley takes you higher up towards Sentinal Pass-with a stop at a 2 small mountain lakes. Eiffel Lake hike provides better views back towards Morraine Lake for a short bit- and then on towards Eiffel Lake- a mountain lake. Pretty but, not as colorful as Morraine. Both spurs are doable in an all day hike.

Beautiful hike! I would recommend starting early to avoid the crowds (and the packed parking lot). Make sure you check the bear notices. Some times of year you must have a group of four or more to hike the trail

Views that will knock your socks off!

I saw more than a dozen lakes and a thousand mountain peaks during a two week visit to Alberta. I can say without a doubt that 10 Peaks Valley was the highlight. When we rounded a corner and i got my first view of the lake I actually gasped.
