There are so many places to stop and take pictures, that this drive may take you longer than expected. Around every curve and over every hilltop was a spectacular view. It does get crowded around the icefields and glaciers between 9 am and 4 pm,...More

This was a beautiful drive from Canmore. We did have some snow coming down a few times. Very busy and was too cold for us to walk up to the snowfield.

We drove the Icefields Parkway north from Lake Louise about 18 years ago, and totally love it. This time we drove south from Jasper, and were stunned by the beauty, and size of the mountains. It was supposed to take us four hours from our...More

Just finished cycling from Jasper to Canmore. On the parkway (Highway 93) there are places to stay along the route (hostels, campgrounds, hotels). We prefer to stay in hotels so we don't have to carry a lot of gear - just a credit card and...More

Amazing scenery of snow capped peaks, streams. animal sights. Plenty of opportunity to either pull over randomly or at designated stops. When you see a group of vehicles pulled over, it's generally cos there's an animal.

The Icefields Parkway is one of the most beautiful driving routes that I've ever been on, and that includes both the scenery you get to see on the road, and in the many, many viewpoints and stops along the way. There are just so many,...More

This is the best road trip of my life. Icefields parkway is the scenic drive between jasper and lake Louise, and you can do it in 3-4 hours. But, please do not rush it, because you'd be missing most of it! Just go at a...More

So many attractions and views on the way! Peyto lake, mistaya canyon, athabasca (waterfall and gracier), views over bow lake and surrounding peaks. If that's not enough we saw a total of 11 bears over 4 days, a fox, multiple kinds of deer.

This is probably one of the most beautiful roadways in the world. It is an easy drive and very safe. The mountain and lake views are spectacular and the opportunities to see wildlife are many. In the Spring, May and June, expect to see many...More

We are staying in Banff for 3 days with a car. We plan to visit Lake Louise and experience the highway drive. Is it worth another long day driving to Colombia Icefield, bearing in mind we are going to visit Mendenhall glacier in Alaska following week? Is one glacier much like another? Many Thanks

Sorry I can't help, I'm from the U.K. and was traveling by coach.
I am traveling from Jasper to Calgary in late May in a hired car and want to plan a trip to the Icefields and skywalk, I just wondered if it's better to go with an organised tour or self drive and buy the tickets that we need when we get there?

The snocoach is at the Columbia Icefields, which is about halfway between Jasper and Lake Louise. Also a large interpretive display at Parks Canada visitor centre there.
