This incredible hacienda belonged in the late 1840's to Antonio López de Santa Ana, the infamous 11 time president of México born in Xalapa and the battle of the Alamo in Texas, was my favorite place to take wedding portraits during my 35 years as a professional studio photographer here in Xalapa. Plan at least half a day to visit the hacienda museum, taking a guided tour with the several guides who will be happy to show your this historically rich part of Mexico's past. The chapel was built by Santa Ana to celebrate his wedding to his young and whimsical bride, with a very unusual facade for a mexican church. The main house is furnished with period furniture, so a guide is really important to find out what history is behind all of the unique furniture.
Try and read-up about the hacienda before going so that your visit will be more fruitful. The interior garden has a gigantic "higuera" tree where supposedly Santa Ana held many cock fights for the wealthy mexican hacendados and military, often times leading to the loss of fortunes. The view to the east from the hacienda can be spectacular, especially at night when you can see the lights of Veracruz port which is almost an hour away. There are very good restaurants in the nearby town of Miradores on the way to Veracruz city. Enjoy your visit!

It is a well preserved hacienda, with some history to it, it is about 15 minute drive outside Xalapa,, it is not a must see, but if you have the chance, we stopped on our way back to Veracruz it was worth it.

Excellent, a real Jewel.....beautiful location, beautiful buildings and beautiful gardens! It doesn't get the 5 stars as parking can be sparse on busy days (which however, to be fair, is rare). If you are visiting circa Xalapa this is a must.

It was neat to see the older style homes, etc. Some parts were not very well marked so we didn't know whether we could enter or not, etc. Overall it was an interesting place to visit

Located in a beautifully lush area this old Hacienda is a very traditional colonial Spanish style common to Mexico. Built by one of Cortez’ soldiers and later taken over by President Santa Ana (who sold California and more to the US) this old Hacienda is well preserved and the furnishings overall are in good shape. It is a piece of history well preserved and worth the visit.

Personally,I love historical places, and everything about this is so magical. You can't do a lot of things here, but you can take such beautiful pictures! The place is really big, and I highly recommend you to ask for a guide, they have a voluntary payment as cost, but they know a lot and can tell you about the items there and about everything that once happened at the big house!

If you are interested in Mexican history, this is a must-see attraction. The place is named after its first occupant, Juan Lencero, who was a soldier under the command of the Spanish Conquistador Hernan Cortez. It was later the home of the infamous Mexican president, Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana. Well preserved and furnished, it is really like stepping back in time. The buildings and structures are well maintained and the grounds are beautiful.

This hacienda was given by Fernano Cortz to one of his lutenists during the 1500's. It is remarkably refined for the era and is filled with expensive European furniture that I did not expect..
