Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I traveled to Colima with our 2 teenagers and 2 young children and booked our all day tour with Jupiter. We all had a fantastic day enjoying the area and learning so much from Jupiter about Colama and the volcano. Even our 7 year old kid was entertained all day!!! Admire Mexico Tours gets 5 stars!!!

We drove with friends to Colima-beautiful, clean central square, had breakfast at the outdoor restaurant at Ceballos Hotel. The food was mediocre, but the hotel was a beautiful restoration. We were fortunate enough to be there at the beginning of their Lent pre-celebrations, so there was a parade in the square, followed by the bull-fights the next day (which we were sorry to miss). There was a lovely tourist office in the square with helpful staff. We were able to book an afternoon tour of the area with a very friendly, knowledgeable tour operator, Florencio from Corazon de Colima Tours. We drove toward the volcano (didn't have enough time to hike to it), experienced the Zona Magica, a lagoon where coffee is grown, a coffee "factory" and Comala, another beautiful town with an outdoor restaurant in the central square. Their specialty is "punches"-buy a drink & the tapas keep coming until you tell them to stop. For 3 drinks & all we could eat, plus tip, the bill was under $10! If we had known earlier, we would have stayed in that area for a few days, & taken tours to the surrounding pueblos.
We took the ETN bus back to Manzanillo-luxurious, express bus & very cheap. There is a huge difference between the local buses & the city-to-city express buses. It's fun taking both!
We were very impressed with Florencio's guiding & would recommend him to anyone taking a tour in that area. His web site is www.corazondecolimatours.com.

Jupiter Rivera who operates a B&B in Comala Mexico (Casa Alvarada) also provides tours of the Colima Volcano. This is a very active volcano which sends plumbs of smoke up daily, and he took us a few miles from the town where we got a fantastic view of the volcano and were able to take great photos of the volcano activity. We also visited a coffee plantation on the same tour. Jupiter speaks fluent English and Spanish and is an accredited tour guide, he knows the area well and provided an abundant amount of information.
Anyone who is visiting the area of Manzanillo, Lake Chapala or Guadalajara should plan to take this tour as it is something you should not miss while in the area. Two thumbs up to Jupiter. casa_alvarada@hotmail.com

You can go to Laguna Carrizalillo, it has the best accommodation for the view of the volcano. There is a hotel, a one story flat, next to the lake. I stayed there for 3 days. It was super awesome to have the complete view, the smoky volcano, jungle, lake, and the reflection of the volcano in the water right from the room window. At the sunset it looked magical, like Jurassic Park, as if the dinasours were walking around somewhere. The room was big, with bathroom, and cost only 300 peso.

There are also some houses/suites with kitchen, cost more but not next to the lake. Camping, BBQ, kids playground also available. On the weekends there were hundreds of locals but only a few during weekdays, and very few stay over night. Only saw one foreign couple the whole time so guess not many tourists know this place, that's why I'm putting it on TA. You can eat some meals at the restaurant Thurs - Sun, but better to do picnic or BBQ, bring your own pot and pans. If you don't have one it's possible to borrow from them, but looks like they only have one or two, it's their own. It's better to bring your own food, but there is also a small store nearby with basic supply to make meals.

The staff were super nice, the widow of the room were glass stripes and 3 were missing, they replaced it right away. It's much colder at night than in town, they got me extra blanket and even a electric heater, though to most people you won't find it necessary at all. When restaurant was closed they even allowed me to use the kitchen from there suite to cook. Muchas gracias a todo el personal en Laguna Carrizalillo :D

The bus from Colima takes about one hour drops you off right in front the gate. But the schedule is about every 2 hours so better to check before you go. There is also a small town called Comala quite nice with all white one story houses, you can stop by on your way back, the bus between there and Colima every half an hour.

We were on a family vacation visiting relatives in El Grullo, Jalisco, Mexico when we realised that the active volcano in Colima was only a couple of hours drive away. Having local knowledge from my wife's sister, we were able to drive through Parque Nacional Volcan Nevado de Colima without getting lost. This was an amazing drive on a well-maintained two-lane road through the park. We drove through beautiful terrain and canyons. The surrounding topography is like no other we've seen. The volcano, which was only venting steam and not currently erupting (last eruption was April 2014) keep reappearing around every other bend. Our eight-year-old could not take his eyes off of this spectacular show of nature. A day trip we will not soon forget!

The hike up to Nevado de Colima was on our to-do list in Mexico, and it lived up and exceeded our expectations. The view was fantastic, we saw five "fumaroles" during our day! Our guide Florencio from Corazón de Colima Tours was amazing, he was very knowledgeable about the volcano and the region and made the hike to the summit safe and enjoyable. The 360 view from the summit is absolutely spectacular, we could see from the top of the volcano all the way down to the plains 3,000m below. We needed to pace ourselves and not go too fast because of the high altitude, but it was well worth the effort. We highly recommend this activity if you're around the city of Colima.

We have visited this area a number of tmes and with each visit we gained a new appreciation for the volcano and surrounding area. We a lways enjoy driving to Colima as we can see the mountain puffing away, sometimes with great force. Visiting the area, due to the active volano makes it feel like we are vising an old friend. There are a number of quaint Mexican towns near the volcano that are both beautiful in their own right and als provide great views of the volcano. If one is so inclined, taking a traditional meal while enjoying the view and the ambience makes it even more special. two favourite places are the MESON DONA RAFA in a village called Ocotillo and the HACIENDA just off hwy 200. Old Mexico at its finest and great food!

Upon approaching the City of Colima from either side, the extraordinary site of the volcanos "El Fuego" and "La Nieve" will take your breadth away!!

It is in the early morning while approaching the City that they are the most clearly seen and at times you can be lucky enough to see a puff or two reach out from the site of the active one, "El Fuego" It is the best free Tourist site available in our area. Don't miss it!!!!

Travel to Erbabuena and above on the old road to the right at the organic coffee factory. At the top end of the road, park and walk to the one of the largest and religious ceremonial trees in North America. Clean air, beautiful view of volcano, and hiking, photo ops galor. Enjoy and be at peace with the earth.

We went on road trip from Guadalajara to Colima, but instead taking diversion from Ciudad Guzman into highway 429 to main entrance, we took route to small village called Tonila which is on the way to Manzanillo. The road will end after few kilometers from Tonila, and you can hike through private farms to get better view of Volcano - only if you seek bit more adventure.
