Interesting place but needs more work
Jun. 2019 • Family
Sitting high on a hill we could set it from our villa across the valley so we decided to visit the ruins. It is well landscaped and being restored but not a lot remains of the original. It is interesting and the rooms that are restored are well done. It appears Dante may have lived here in his exile. The castle was bully in the 10th century but it appears the Etruscans and Romans were here as well. So if you are in the area a nice place to visit.

Great views
Aug. 2018 • Family
The castle is visible for miles around but the only approach is by a very roundabout route made worthwhile by the beautiful avenue of cypress trees. Entry fee is modest but there is little to see except the remains of the castle. The views around are great!

The castle (has to) speak for itself
Aug. 2018 • Family
One has to say, that more could be done to give also to foreigners, a chance to a little explaination about the castle's whys and whats; still, the atmosphere, the beauty of the area surrounding it, and the history it exudes, do justify the visit. Three euros are quite cheap a price to pay; after all, one does not get everyday, the chance to dive into medieval life

"No trespassing" signs everywhere
Aug. 2017 • Family
Nice views and charming ruins. But there are "no trespassing" signs (in Italian) everywhere. You can access just in two rooms, one of which almost empty: no way to climb on at least one of the several towers, although stairs and footbridges are there and probably just need some maintenance. Disappointing.

Beatifull landscape
Jul. 2016
The castello is worth seeing. The landscape around is gorgeous and the views amazing. The grounds are nice and there is a small museum in one of the towers. The brochure provides sufficient information, but seeing the castello per se is completed quickly. What is really worthy in my opinion is the landscape around it, including the beatiful pieve de Romena. I hiked there from Pratovecchio in 2 hours round trip. It is a nice hike. Most people get there by car but they miss the nice little details along the road.

A bit of magic from up on the hill
Jun. 2016 • Couples
If you have a chance to experience a concert or event up at this ruin, do it. Its a wonderful atmosphere, especially at night. Wonderful views of the valley, lovely to see.
