In the heart of Ireland, just over 1 hour from Dublin lies the town of Kilbeggan, home to the world's oldest distillery, established in 1757. It is the quintessential Irish whiskey distillery - whitewashed walls, weathered slate roof, brick chimney stack, creaking timber water wheel, even regular ghost sightings. This is no mere "visitor centre" but a real working distillery run by a team of young enthusiastic craftspeople (and a few wise old heads too), skilled in the traditional ways of making Irish whiskey. Open 7 days (except during Christmas and New Year). On-site Restaurant. Whiskey Bar. Gift Shop. Free parking.

A spontaneous visit to a local attraction. Fantastic guided tour by Deirdre. It was amazing to see the inside of an old distillery exactly as it used to be, listening to the sound of the wheels and cogs moving from the power of the water mill. We had three different whisky tastings at the end and you definitely got your... More

We visited this distillery at the end of last summer. Great wee place with a good insight into how they made whisky back in the day. Good visitor centre and shop.

We were taken on a tour by a local man who has a very good knowledge of all types of whiskey. We started off with a massive breakfast inside the distillery. Dan still talks about that breakfast to this day. Toast butter side up. Our tour guide Tom explained the workings of the mill. We had a free sample at... More

As a self-proclaimed whisky geek I have been to many distilleries in the past - but this one was different. It was great to see a historic distillery that has been well maintained - it even has a working steam engine (although only fired up once a year) and water wheel. I'd recommend this to the first time distillery guest... More

This venue is well worth the visit, with a very informative tour on whiskey brewing, ending with a great tasting experience, as the drink is very smooth and comforting on a cold winters day. Also recommend the food and friendly service in their adjacent café.

The Kilbeggan Distillery was on our tour of Ireland. The building itself is a beauty itself and very picturesque. The tour guide was very informative about the building and distilling process. It can be cramped in some rooms thru the distillery. And lighting can be dim also. The experience was very nice and the whiskey sampled in the tasting room... More

We were really looking forward to this distillery and we're very disappointed. Parking is available if you drive behind it, without charge. Photography is not permitted outside nor on all parts within, as it's still in use. Make sure you are warm, fully dressed and not hungry! The pub serving lunch next door is lovely, good food, also locals visiting... More

We made Kilbeggan's Distillery Experience the target of a day trip from Blessington (about 90 minutes drive). A really worthwhile outing and a lovely scenic drive. The distillery itself is easy to find, the focal point of Kilbeggan town, and has loads of parking out the back. We took the self-guided tour option at 9 euro (including a tasting and... More

Not really a working distillery, it has a couple of small stills but they were not going the day we went. But it is still well worth a visit, it houses a fantastic collection of historical whiskey tools. We did the silver tour and got a tasting (in a freezing shed, not very comfortable) and a tasting glass. I would... More
