A small and lazy town, a bit scruffy and uninviting. Beach is nice but lots of rather shacky looking places to stay and a huge, block long deserted hotel. We will not return. Much better to visit nearby Barra de Navidad

San Patricio Melaque is a vacation retreat for Mexicans and more recently American & Canadians who ride around quite happily on bicycles and especially for the RV entusiast. It'a a short local bus ride from Barra de Navidad. It has a gorgeous long beach with a variety of excellent resturants and a few small hotels that sit right on the... More

I live in nearby Barra de Navidad, and swim at Melaque beach almost every afternoon. The hills to the west of the beach provide excellent protection from the prevailing NW winds, resulting in calmer swimming conditions. The beach has good restaurants, and plenty of chairs with umbrellas for rent for sun protection. The view of Bahia de Navidad is beautiful,... More

Ahhhh Melaque. I was introduced to this small, amazing town through my parents who've been living winters there for the last decade. Flying into Manzanillo, it's about a 40 min drive to this town through other small towns, and scenic mountains and plantations. but once you arrive, you're greeted by beautiful beaches, super friendly locals. Small little restaurants that don't... More

This town is located less than five minutes from Barra de Navidad, at the other end of the bay. It has more protection from the NW winds, so the ocean swimming is better, especially in the San Patricio area, which is tucked into the northern corner of the bay. There is very easy access to all of the restaurants and... More

My husband and I vacationed here for a total of 3 weeks. We really wanted to try something different; contrast to the "all inclusive" familiarity. This time with our visit to Mexico, we wanted to experience the culture, the people and its' food. Melaque definitely fulfilled all of our hopes and expectations, in terms of the Mexican lifestyle! I can't... More

We have had the pleasure to live in this town with our children and have come to light ve it as our home away from home. The people in this town make you feel like you are family. The restaurants and great and range from simple tacos to 5 star dining. The brach is fabulous, and the vendors are not... More

Fonda Dona Lencha, a lovely little place where you'll get excellent chile rejenos or other dishes and rub shoulders with local residents or a ranchero from the hills, who will tell you about his she-goats and "the most beautiful beach" near his village. Dona Lencha is run by Maria Luisa, third generation of the same family serving excellent and budget-priced... More

We found no one swimming in Barra while the beaches were full of people in Melaque. Larger waves create more under town due to the wave direction in Barra. Melaque is protected by a rocky barrier and thus has less violent wave action
