About Baird Bay Ocean Eco Experience
Baird Bay Ocean Eco Experience is a marine experience, once done, you will never forget. None of the marine mammals of Baird Bay have ever been fed, nor have they been enticed in any other way. The interaction is entirely of their choosing and will remain so. Not everyday is perfect, the conditions are wild and free. We give it our best shot for an incredible interaction to happen for you with either the sea lions or dolphins, or at its very best both these beautiful marine mammals on the one tour. No guarantees are promised, but in saying that, we can guarantee the least that will happen, is, you will see the sea lions up close and personal.

This was the most amazing experience. We started off being fitted for wetsuits, boarded the boat and travelled about 15 min to the sea lions. The water was calm and we had perfect weather. I cannot overstate how knowledgeable our captain was. He knew exactly where the sea lions would be and how to attract them by playing with them. We could spend as much time in the water as we wanted. We were surrounded by sea lions the whole time and it was just magical. Hot chocolate and biscuits were so welcome when we came out of the water. When you are out of the water it’s cold! Next we headed to the dolphins - again the seas were relatively calm. Our guide showed us where they were and you have to look under the water all the time as they move so quickly. There would have been 6 or 8 dolphins but sometimes there have been 70. Incredible to just be in the water and so close to them. Don’t bother with any other sea lion tour - this is the one!

Our family of 5 were lucky enough to go on the Baird Bay Ocean Eco Experience and we can not fault it. Swimming with sea lions and dolphins was absolutely amazing. Children are aged 9, 13 and 15 and all had an awesome time. So well organised from booking, wet suits, boat ride out, lots of time in the water and a very welcome hot drink to warm up. Thank you for an unforgettable experience.

Fabulous experience! A real treat. The seal lions were friendly, curious and fun, and there were plenty of dolphins frolicking by the boat. The sea was big for our trip - too big for small children but OK for older teenagers and adults. Big seas meant that visibility was lower than usual and there were unusual big surges which made it difficult to swim and navigate the bay and stay still for the seals to explore us. Even so, our group had at least an hour playing with the seal lions in shallow water. It was too stormy and murky to get in the water with the dolphins, but they still interacted with us up on the boat - lots of fun. Alan and Mick were great supports on the boat for swimmers of all abilities in this kind of sea, and Trish was really helpful with organising the right day for our trip (given the conditions). Well worth the trip to Baird Bay - thanks so much Alan, Mick and Trish!

I love to be out in the water - I was very wary of the water temperature however. It was cold ,18 degrees - but you don’t care once you see the sea lions Water so clear and clean. They are amazing , great organised trip, the boys on the boat were lovely. Dolphins were in short supply on the day only 5 in cove but still beautiful to see. Best wetsuits ever supplied so being in the water was fine. Hot chocolate once back in the boat greatly appreciated. A must do - don’t miss this!

Let me start by saying that I am not a strong swimmer. In the warm, shallow, current-free waters of Adelaide beaches I was doing fine. But in the open ocean I’ve realized - to my utter embarrassment - that I have a grace and skill of a dead frog. But it didn’t really matter - the crew members made sure that I felt completely safe in the water, that I saw everything there was to see and that I enjoyed this experience to the fullest. And what an experience it was! First of all you do not feel like an intruder - it’s an encounter with wild animals but it’s on their terms and it’s them who decides how close you’ll end up being. And we were lucky to have a whole group of sea lions coming almost nose to nose with us and playing around our group - one even decided to play tug of war with our guide. The dolphins in comparison came out as a bit distant - but just seeing them swimming underneath us was magical. To sum it up: even if we didn’t do anything else on our trip, this alone would be worth driving 700km for.
