About
Baird Bay Ocean Eco Experience is a marine experience, once done, you will never forget. None of the marine mammals of Baird Bay have ever been fed, nor have they been enticed in any other way. The interaction is entirely of their choosing and will remain so. Not everyday is perfect, the conditions are wild and free. We give it our best shot for an incredible interaction to happen for you with either the sea lions or dolphins, or at its very best both these beautiful marine mammals on the one tour. No guarantees are promised, but in saying that, we can guarantee the least that will happen, is, you will see the sea lions up close and personal.

    Fantastic swim with ocean creatures
An amazing experience. We had the privilege of swimming with both sealions and dolphins in a beautiful environment. A well run tour, small group and knowledgeable and helpful team of staff to assist us. An excellent adventure!

    Amazing tour
Fantastic experience swimming with dolphins and sea lions. Enjoyed the afternoon cruising round with Alan and Jade who are both very knowledgeable. Beautiful little bay and so glad the sea lions and dolphins came to see us.

    6 out of 5 stars!
If I could give this tour 6 stars, I would. Fantastic / awe inspiring / wonderful are some adjectives that don’t quite capture how special and unique the tour was. Alan and Jo were beyond fabulous. A once in a lifetime experience that was better than expected! Highly recommend.

Good Animals but disappointing other tour aspects
The tour was good, the sea lions were fantastic but we didn’t get to swim with any dolphins which was disappointing (I understand they are wild animals) The reason I am giving only 3 stars not 5 is because I was a little disappointed with the other parts of the tour for the price that we paid ($220/person) There was no commentary like you would get on other ocean tours (I would have liked some information about the sea lions and dolphins etc while we were travelling on the boat) There was NO food provided at all (again, for this price, on other ocean tours, lunch and morning tea would have been provided) After the tour, there were NO showers, hot or cold which was really disappointing. It meant I needed to be salty until we drove 2.5 hours to Elliston which was very disappointing. There were also no hot drinks provided on the tour (or after we returned) despite it being so cold. The wetsuits (3/2mm steamer) they provided kept us warm enough but only barely which meant we couldn’t really enjoy our time in the water (16degrees C) which was again a little disappointing. The tour also didn’t run with any photographers either so if you wanted to take photos, you needed to take your own. The tour was also quite short, from departure on the boat to return to shore, it was only approximately 1.5-2hrs which for the price is a little disappointing. Again, the sea lions were great but for the price you pay for the tour, the remaining services very severely lacking making the overall experience a little disappointing.

Amazing experience 2 ticks off the bucket list.
This tour was so cool we all had the best time. Wetsuits & snorkel gear provided you just need swimmers & a towel. We went to the seals first and there was heaps of them with baby seals coming out of the pool for the first time as per the guide. We all respected the rules and they came to us. The water was shallow enough in some places but also has a tide pull to it. The seals swan in and out and around you the whole time. Next we found the dolphins after a few tries, there was a pod and they had some babies as well which the mums kept away from us which is what they should do. Some Dolphins came up so close I could easily touch them and I wanted to but didn’t as they are wild and would not want us to I’m sure. The dolphins were in deeper open water but I braved it and did it anyway even though I was a bit nervous about that part. What a great day we had and the price was ok with me because it’s such a bucket list thing to do I don’t care about the cost at all. We are road tripping through SA and this one defiantly one of the high lights of out trip. Guides were nice friendly and looked after us really well. A little out of the way but do yourself a favour and make this tour a part of your plans.

A unique experience to swim with both playful sea lions & inquisitive dolphins at the same time.
A wonderful experience not to be missed. I have swum with dolphins around the world many times & swum with sea lions in the Galapagos Is but NEVER have I swum with both at the same time. Excellent check-in service by Kat, terrific boat management, informative commentary & very helpful in-water guide. If you get too cold in the 16C water, simply climb back on board, enjoy a hot Milo & dry out before you go back in. The wetsuits help too.

Exceeded our high expectations. Fabulous experience where the Aussie sea lions interact with you on a small very well run tour with 13 guests. Alan and his delightful assistant Jade looked after us so well in the purpose built boat with easy access .
Jade is like a human sea lion. Alan's family have been running these dolphin & sea lion swims for 30 years.

Bring a jacket or towel to wrap yourself in after the swim as it gets cold in your wetsuit on the 20 minute return journey. Excellent wet suits, masks & snorkels supplied.

Highlight of our wonderful Eyre Peninsula road trip.
And yes you can easily drive a 2 wheel drive up the firm sand to the tour centre - another fun addition to the experience. They have quality accommodation available on site.

We stayed 1 hour south at the excellent cabins in the Venus Bay Beachfront Tourist Park where we hired a tinny the next day and found a large pod of dolphins feeding off an island half way down the bay. One of us slipped in for a swim with them. A bonus for us. Then there are the magic sunsets and moon rises. Bliss.

In 2016 we did a sea lion swim of Green Head near Jurien Bay in WA on the Coral Coast while over there for the wildflowers. Also excellent, but Baird Bay was a step up in number of sea lions interacting with us.
Highly recommended

Absolutely the most amazing experience in South Australia! It was a very chilly morning, but the weather was soon forgotten once we hopped in the water and we’re delighted with the very friendly sea lions especially Feral and her amazing character. After swimming and getting up close with the pod of dolphins we enjoyed a much needed milo to warm our bones up. The knowledge from Alan and his hilarious commentary made our day and Jade was so helpful in the water doing all the hard work to keep the sea lions interested.

Both me and my partner kept repeating “So good” after the tour was finished because it’s the best day we’ve had in SA. Thanks so much again!

The tour was fantastic, you can see they are passionate about the marine life they tour with. Care is taken when approaching the animals and they create a genuine interaction born from curiosity by the sea lions and dolphins. An absolute fantastic experience
