Escape to the shores of the majestic Lake Timiskaming, where peace and beauty await you just a few hours away from the big city. Built on a site used by the Algonquin people for over 1,000 years, Fort Témiscamingue-Obadjiwan was once an important trading post. During the 17th and 18th centuries, the fort played a strategic role in the ongoing struggle between the French and British for control of the fur trade in the Upper Ottawa and Hudson Bay basins. Take part in a culturally enriching experience in harmony with nature, at this historical meeting place where people traded goods.

Informative and well spaced out overlooking Lake Temiskaming. Especially enjoyed the walk through the enchanted forest that also displays the work of Christian Paquette. Staff very friendly and helpful

We went to the fort today. It is very reasonably priced and extremely clean. The outside displays are very well maintained and the grounds well kept. It is an easy stroll and the view of the lake is wonderful. There is lots of empty space and hopefully they will add more displays in the future. Overall a very nice outing... More

I visited this wonderful place twice, once with my daughter's class and another time as an organized group. Our guide was bilingual and very knowledgeable, he explained about the trades and the way of life back then. It's different since you can explore and listen to stories inside and then continue the tour outdoors. On a hot day, this place... More

I loved this museum/historic site! Very different from your average dry museum displays. A lot it is set up outdoors and we went on a beautiful day so it was great to walk around to the different stations and learn about life in the area during the fur trade. Very scenic with lots of nice spots for photography.
