Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

While enjoying the roundtrip to explore Manama we also visited this fort.
This large area is remarkable as probably still parts are unexplored. When arriving at the top you can see a lot of Bahrain's surroundings. There is a nice bistro 'Saffron.
Well maintained area and good for a stop!

**Shaikh Salman bin Ahmed Al Fateh Fort is one of the significant historical forts in Bahrain, built by Shaikh Salman bin Ahmed Al Khalifa in 1812 on the remains of an old 17th century fort. The fort is characterized by its strategic position. The fort was built primarily for military and defensive purposes but later converted into royal residence and also features a Fort Mosque. It offers a splendid view across the Hunanaiya valley. Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa who ruled Bahrain in the end of 19th century, was born in the fort. In short it is known as RIFFA FORT.

**RIFFA FORT is smaller than Qal'at al-Bahrain(Bahrain Fort) but It is bigger than Arad Fort. A small museum had been installed inside the fort, which included interesting displays on the royal family and traditional practices, such as falconry and horse breeding, as well as Arabian swords.

**There is no entrance fee and has washroom facilities.

**Timing: Sun - Wed 7:00am - 2:00pm...Thurs and Sat 9:00am - 6:00pm...Fri 3:00-6:00pm

**The Fort also hosts an Arabic restaurant & cafe called Saffron, with a terrace overlooking the valley of Hunanaiya. You MUST Try the restaurant.

I loved driving into Riffa to be honest, it really is a world away from the bling of Manama.

The fort itself is just not ready for tourism, however we did go on a Monday which was probably not our best idea but we wanted to avoid the crowds of tourists at weekends. Just check opening times of other venues if you go in the week because the military museum down the road was closed.

First of all, we just went walking around the perimeter because the entrance isn't clearly marked. We ended up inside going through the cafe. This did look nice to be honest but we didn't stay to eat.

Inside was disappointing, so many rooms were locked, there was nothing much to see. The museum itself was 'broken' yet the man in the museum tried to get us to buy a ticket, it was only the nice security man who told us that the museum was 'broken' so don't buy.

I am glad I went but if you have been to the fort in Oman there is no comparison. Obviously the fort in Oman is prepared for tourism and so everything is clearly signposted and so on, this had nothing.

I would only go again if there were some developments or changes, otherwise go so you can see Riffa and a completely different style of living but the fort might just be a quick visit.

My brother and I parked outside the fort and went straight to the restaurant as we'd been recommended the breakfast. Lovely spot with a fantastic view. Breakfast was amazing, 3 types of bread, samosas, pasty type things, and 6 types of dips and pulses. We shared one breakfast between us and couldn't finish it.
Had a nice walk around the fort. Not a lot of information about it but it made more fun imagining it. I think children would love it

I went here two days ago with my dad. We went here in the morning about 10 AM. It was very beautiful and quiet, not much people coming and you can see the villages when you go on top of the fort. There is a museum inside which we found really high tech since they use touch sensors and recorded narrations. We got in for free but we are not sure if it is because it is a weekend. The place feels like going back in time or in a movie like prince of persia. We enjoyed our visit and took a lot of pictures.

After visiting The Tree of Life, we drove 20 km N following Google Maps through difficult Riffa. Parking was also a bit difficult to find nearby at noon. We walked the exterior, admiring the clean lines of its early 1800 fortress architecture, arriving at the back with its long view over a broad expanse of white housing. After winding through its interior, we exited the front and walked down to the Military Museum, noting its happiest visitor would be an interested local. Driving out on the main highway was easy access to the freeway northeast.

It was a great day to take the kids to so one of the remarkable place in Bahrain, as soon as we enter, it took us back to the old days.
The entrance to this fort is FREE of charge.
Kids learn how old people use to live, learn the name of things that doesn't exists currently.
We head later on to Saffaron Restaurant, which is actually in side the fort location, and it has an amazing view for "Riffa". They serve transitional Bahraini breakfast, and it is so delicious.
I recommend to visit the fort in the winter time from November till March, and in the early morning, take you round and sit for a wonderful breakfast or branch in amazing terrace.

Lots of workers strolling through and construction out front, but not much going on within. Fort is in impressive shape, but zero signage. No one was there to charge us the nominal fee.
