Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The monument is impressive and there are wonderful colonial ere mansions to look at as you stroll down the paseo de montejo but if you want a close up view of the monument you kind of take your life in your hands as it’s in the middle of a traffic circle

We walked from Centro up the paseo to this terminus and it was worth it. There is a crosswalk on the side so you don't need to risk your life in traffic on the front side. It is a well-cared for monument in contract to the others you pass along the street. What a shame that people have defaced them. This provides a beautiful, meaningful photo op.

While in Merida, don't miss the chance to stroll back and forth along the beautiful Paseo Montejo, Merida's answer to Champs Elysée.
As the icing on the cake, you'll encounter the magnificent Monumento a la Patria, inaugurated in 1956. It features over 300 intricately carved figures, narrating Mexico's colorful history from the creation of Tenochtitlán to the mid-20th century.
Do yourself a favor, brave the traffic circle, and walk all the way around the monument to capture the entire story.

A beautiful end to a long walk up Paseo de Montejo, you will stumble across this monument. This is a Mayan style monument that my friends and I found at night time. It’s wonderfully lit up at night, bringing more of an atmosphere to the site!

Really impressive monument, a must see in merida. We took pictures from across the street as we didn't dare trying to dodge traffic to get to it, and I don't recommend trying honestly, the way drivers are here. The only minus was the fact that some thought it is cool to spray-paint some graffiti on it, very sad.

We took a carriage ride and saw the monument. It was very impressive. It is a must to see in Merida. Some of the other statues are very dirty.

What an amazing monument. We got to drive around it a few times so we could see all the different elements. When I was researching the trip, this was the one thing I really wanted to see in Merida. Really sad that it and many of the other monuments on the main road have been recently vandalized.

Definitely worth a visit but need to dodge traffic in the traffic circle to access (and no one seems to stop!) Need to have a policeman or something to help make it easier. Definitely worth a visit.

A stunning monument that combines elements of European and Mayan heritage of the city. Very unique though after about 5 minutes of staring and taking pictures there is not much else there.
