Stunning
Jun. 2021
Beautiful route with many archeological sites. In particular Uxmal is really beautiful. Due to COVID some sites are closed currently so you better check in advance.
Good thing: less tourists than Chichen Itza, so less crowded.

Don't come until COVID is over
Jun. 2021
On google it says that many of the pyramids are open, but they're NOT! Most of the ruins in the Puuc Route are closed because of COVID, They're quite tricky into making you come all the way to Merida believing you can go sightseeing but most places are closed, this in June 2021

Do not plan until the pandemic's over
Jan. 2021
My 3 star rating is for Neutral, not Average, as we didn't make it due to closure.
Making the Puuc loop is a great excursions you can make from Merida. If you get up early, you can make it in a day as a whole day excursion.
We visited it 8 years ago, and wanted to repeat it this January.
Unfortunately, at our first stop, at Uxmal ruins we learnt from the staff that all other sites (Kabah, Sayil, Xlapak and Labna) are closed until further notice, probably till the pandemic end.
Uxmal is open, 8 AM till 4 PM with strictly enforced Covid measures, on which you can read more in that review.

Five Superb Maya Archeological Sites
Jan. 2020
The main site, Uxmal, is perhaps the most beautiful in all of Yucatan, though it is worth the effort to hire a guide to see Kabah, Sayil, Xlapak, and Labna, which are just down the road. You can stay at Uxmal, Ticul, or Santa Elena.

Great places to visit !! you can run the whole route in a single day, so go on and enjoy the amazing archeological sites !! Start taking a breakfast at town of Uman, the go and drive to Labna, Xlapak, Sayil (only North palace), Kabah and you will finish on Uxmal.

Beautifully preserved Mayan ruins
Mar. 2020
We saw these ruins along with others including Uxmal using an eco tour guide. These ruins were quire accessible and required only a small fee to enter. Uxmal is the big draw but Puuc is very impressive on its own.

Nice bonus stop when added to other sites.
Feb. 2020
Another peaceful site. Its a small area, an easy walk. There is not enough here to justify going only here, but it's very near Uxmal, Kabah, Labna and Sayil. All small site with the exception of Uxmal of course.
Plenty of shade, a lot of trees. Basically 2 builds mostly intact and a larger area/platform mostly in ruins.
Glad we went, small enough I would not need to go again. Clean and quiet mini excursion, add to the other sites in this area to make a whole day of exploration.

We did all the ruins along the Puuc route. Enjoyed the ruins, the drive, the caves and the small villages we encountered. Loved Uxmal!!

A passage through time and archaeological architecture
Jan. 2020
Puuc, the architecture style and region is full of details, great structures and pyramids. Pay attention to the flora and fauna. Talk to the locals about their wonderful legends, Alux, the tiny beings, learn from them.

Great Drive!
Jan. 2020
There were several options to do this route. One can rent a car, take a Sunday bus which leaves early and returns in the late afternoon. The bus stops for about 30-45 minutes at each site and is the cheapest option. You can go on a commercial tour bus as well but it is more expensive. We opted to rent the car and split the costs 3-ways. We left our place in Merida by 7:30 a.m. and returned by about 5. We skipped the caves at Loltun and the ruins at Uxmal because we had done them before. If you haven't seen Uxmal do NOT skip it. It is the best ruin on the whole route and one of the best in all Mexico. We visited Kabah, Sayil, Xlapak and Labna. They were all unique yet all related in time and history. The coolest thing about visiting these sites is that we were virtually alone. No crowds when we were there. In fact at two of the ruins we were the ONLY people there and at the other two there could not have been more than ten people combined. Having one of these sites to your self is a special experience. The road was excellent and there was virtually no traffic. Take water and snacks as places to eat are few. Also start out with a full tank of gas. This is a remote area. A great trip for sure.
