This is on Gallery Row along Calle 60 which is well worth a visit anyway. I'm glad I didn't skip Galerie Tataya because I found it to have the most well curated set of works and really enjoyed hearing insights about the works from Francoise. I'm only a student but he took time out to talk to me about the... More

I spent 4 days in Merida and walked dozens of miles looking for the right treasures to bring back to New York. I found what I needed in this little gallery. I bought a small ceramic statue for my mom and a small painting for myself. Both made in Mexico, which was important to me, and Francois wrapped them nicely... More

Well worth a visit. The owner is very friendly, speaks excellent English and is very informative. Several Cuban pieces when I visited that were exceptional. Yes, I ended up with a few pieces...couldn't resist!

We made a tour of galleries in Merida having heard there was a lively art scene. This was one of our favorites by far. The owner was friendly and helpful. The art work included some very fine artists as well as up and coming artists. We bought a print by a Cuban artist but had to wait until the print... More

If you are after something unique from an up and coming artist, this is a great place to start looking. There are a number of pieces from a Cuban artist currently on display that are really worth taking a look at if art, particularly print (etching) art is your thing.

There are a few galleries and shops in this part of town, all worth a look. Galeria Tataya has an amazing selection of Cuban art as well as some Mexican artist and a fantastic collection of painted carved wood animals from Oaxaca. I bought a beautiful praying mantis that was also reasonably prices. Francois is a charming fellow and has... More

My wife and I happened upon Galeria Tataya while exploring Merida. Sculptures and paintings visible through the glass front drew us in where we met Francois who quietly assisted us by answering our questions and providing information on the art and the artists. The art is diverse and interesting. It helped us to understand, or at least reflect upon, the... More

Good contemporary Mexican art is mind-blowing! Francois at Tataya has an intuitive understanding of excellent and exciting art of Mexico and Cuba. We live half a year in a 200 year old Mexican colonial house in Merida. We have purchased several paintings from Tataya...and have missed several others, which were purchased while we were thinking about buying. If you like... More
