About
The Mayan Cacao Company is a place to discover the origins of chocolate in the same land as its creators: The Mayans. This is not a museum, it is an interactive experience where you become an explorer of the history of the most popular food in the world. You will learn about the Mayan culture, their relationship with chocolate, when and how it was discovered, the applications and much more. All this magical trip will be through our different areas in the park, you can also see how chocolate is made from scratch, dare to try a Pre-Hispanic drink of Mayan priests and emperors. We will finish with the opportunity to taste our famous chocolate margaritas! And in our boutique you can buy an unimaginable variety of products made from cocoa: soaps, lotions, sauces, handmade chocolate bars and much more. We have 13 different flavors of 100% organic and gluten-free chocolate. Try them and take your favorite. Let the sensuality of chocolate catch your senses.

- PinballArchitect6 contributionsChocolate lovers rejoiceVisited during our cruise day in port. Path was an amazing tour guide providing not only the history of chocolate but also Mayan/Aztec/Olmec civilizations. The museum spaces are small and it is more about the interaction with your guide so make the most of your time and ask questions. They even had a demonstration of how they made chocolate by hand. Chocolate was delicious, make sure to pick up your favorite before you leave. Note the chocolate they make is small batch and contains nibs, so isn’t smooth like you may be used to. It isn’t bad but does has a different texture so can take you by surprise.we´re happy to know you like the tour, thanks for the good review, hope to see you soon again.Written 12 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 November 2023
- TinyTiptop30 contributionsFun learning experience! We were warmly greeted by our host, Eduardo, and then were led to a small building to start making our chocolate. Eduardo did a great job of explaining everything, including the significance of cacao to the Mayan culture. After we made our chocolate, we also made chocolate margaritas. Thereafter, we learned more about the spices and other plants in the area. It was thoroughly enjoyable and we learned a lot.Eduardo will be happy knowing he reached such a nice review from you, Thanks for taking the timeWritten 24 January 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 January 2024
- Sofia N11 contributionsMy day in CozumelOn a sunny day in Cozumel my family and I decided to go to the Mayan cacao company. We had booked a tour the day before. Eduardo/Lalo, our guide was extremely nice and happy. He explained everything wonderfully and answered our questions perfectly. We could not have gotten a better guide. The actual place is really pretty, just as a rainforest. With lots of shade to hide in on a sunny day and lots of different plants to look at. There were also some parrots to look at. At the end of our guided tour Eduardo helped us actually make chocolate which was a wonderful learning experience. If you are ever in Cozumel don’t hesitate to book a tour and chocolate workshop! We truly appreciate this nice and detailed review, thanks for it. Eduardo is awesome, we'll let him know about it.Written 24 January 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 16 January 2024
- Michael LSevierville, Tennessee6 contributionsMayan Chocolate and Margarita ExperienceWe did the Chocolate and Margarita Experience at the Mayan Cacao Company. It was amazing. The tour started off with our guide Angel giving us some history on Mayan culture and what chocolate meant to them. Then we go to sample some of the best tortillas we have ever had. After that we got to make our own chocolate bar and then craft in a blender a chocolate margarita. Angel was an awesome guide and we never felt rushed. It was a 5 star experience that we will do again on our next trip to Cozumel.we'll be waiting for you the next time you're in town. thanks for the review.Written 13 February 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 February 2024

I hadn’t expected to find such a well developed chocolate narrative in Mexico — but after touring the Mayan Cacao company it all made perfect sense! Not only does this place do great chocolate (including chocolate icy drinks), but it comes with history and cultural detail, along with multimedia and practical demonstrations of someone preparing the cacao in a traditional way. The grounds are lovely and the cacophony of sound from the resident macaws reminds you of their colourful presence. In case you didn’t know, the Mayans used to walk everywhere, and after watching the monkeys go nuts after eating from the cacao tree they realised the energy properties of the cacao bean. This is a lovely spot to visit... interesting things to see and look at and generous opportunities to sample their locally made chocolate. I would definitely revisit if back in Cozumel.

Went there in March and it was not crowded (most due to COVID travel restrictions). The tour was nice and very interesting. You can tell that everyone there took pride in their job and the company. The samples were wonderful and so was the samples of the chocolate liquor.

We had an amazing experience today. Adrian was a wonderful tour guide. Learning all about the process and history behind Mayan chocolate and the alibreje was a an excellent experience that we will remember forever. Adrian is so knowledgeable and passionate about his work that it really shows. We enjoyed every single moment of this tour. And we were able to pick and paint our own alibreje. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Cozumel.

This was a nice stop. If you can book this one. It's small, but you learn and have the opportunity to buy some chocolate made there. They also sale items made locally, so take cash for purchases as their Card machines were not working well.

My family and I took the basic tour and it was just the 3 of us and one more individual. We learned a lot about chocolate and how chocolate is important to the Mayans and to the current people that live in the region. The guide spoke VERY good English, was knowledgeable and interactive with us. He should us how " mole " was made and we got to taste it. The gift shop is nice and the staff wonderful. Do not forget to sample not only the chocolate but the chocolate liquor! Worth the price and the whole time we were there lasted less than 2 hours.

I went on a day with no cruise ships on the island and so I was the only one on the tour. The place more cocoa museum than factory. I thoroughly enjoyed watching how the chocolate is made by hand. They also are doing agriculture experiments which were insightful and interesting. Worth the admission? Sure.

Can you do this as a stand alone tour? If so how do you get there? How far from the port? How much time should we allow? Thank you in advance for any guidance and information. Going to Cozumel in March 2025.

Disney cruise lines looks to offer a Mexican Halloween tour — is this only for cruise guest or does Mayan Cocoa company offer it for the general public (alter making, food, decorating a skull)? And is it year round or just certain dates?

The actual company will respond directly to you. I’m pretty sure they are on trip advisor. They responded to my review before.

I have allergies to peanuts and treennuts, Are the items that people taste during the 45 workshop excursion from the Disney Cruise free from all nuts?
Written 24 February 2020
I wasn’t on a Disney Cruise however if I remember correctly the guides at the Cocoa tour were aware of nut allergies and alerted the group when tree nuts or other allergens were present
