Just a really nice local coastal town with restaurants, beaches, shops and churches. Lots of touristy things to do and a thriving night life. Lots of places to stay without the need for a taxi.

San Miguel is a lovely city. Walk a bit to get away from the cruise ship dock. We were in Cozumel for one of our Ports of Call and decided not to book a shore excursion. If you are up for walking there are some great places away for the tourist trap streets along the coast. Once you are about... More

San Miguel is a quaint little town with lots of shops, vendors and food. Where we stayed we were approximatley 2 miles away. Because this is right at the hub of all the cruise ships, it gets super busy. Best times to go are early in the morning or Sundays (ships do not come in on Sundays). We went here... More

San Miguel is a lovely city. If you want to really see it you have to get away for the tourist trap streets along the coast. Once you are about 5 blocks up you will start to see it is way more then a ferry and cruise ship dock. Spend an afternoon wandering around and you may be surprised at... More

We spent 10 days in San Miguel (Cozumel) and loved it. We explored most of the town by car and food (highly recommend renting a car as taxis are VERY hard to come by especially during the busy holiday season and the nonstop cruise ships arrivals/departures). San Miguel is a small laid back, clean, safe and friendly town. The grid... More

In the early evening after most of the cruise ships have left the area is a good time to wonder the malecon and enjoy the sights.

I always enjoy bargaining with the shop keepers off the town square and talking to them about the island. The shops off the main road are willing to bargain with you.

When the cruise ships are in this town hops. Explore a few blocks in from the waterfront for a more authentic feel and better deals Check out Woody's Pub off the town square. Live entertainment in the evening

We walked to San Miguel from our hotel in Cozumel which was about 6 kms there and back. We bargained with the locals for some souvenirs and bought tequila in the liquor store. The locals were very friendly and gave us some tips as to where to go for specific things.
