The Noches de Kukulkan is an awesome lightshow in Chichen Itza. This review is not about the actual event but about the online rip off. My girlfriend and I both booked the tickets online on their websites or at least tried to. We were asked for credit card details which we provided, than an error occoured and we did not receive a ticket. We sent emails for refund and my girlfriend got no answer for a long time. I got an answer that I just have been refunded which is not true. Actually we both did not get any money back so far, waiting for four weeks now. Banks are informed.

My wife and I decided to make a day of it at Chichen Itza and stay to watch the light show. It was nice to have 45 mins walking around the illuminated main ruins with very few people. The light show is a potted history of Chichen and whilst it's all in Spanish you could get the idea from the images. The show was shorter than expected (about 20mins) but was a different experience. Price was perhaps on the high side but given the low numbers of people I can see why. Online booking was a nightmare so we bough the tickets at Chichen (available from 1:30pm on the day). Would probably say it would have been a bit disappointing if we had travelled just for that but was a nice end to the day in Chichen.

Amazing!!!
It is possible to buy in advance on the official website for a fair price.
It's hard to find the site, and how to find the entry. But it's super worth it. We arrived a little earlier and first you visit the illuminated ruins. Then, little seats, comes the show apart. Lights, stories and sounds take over those monuments.
Ah, what I liked most: the vaga-lumes!! At night we were able to see hundreds of vaga-lumes dancing in the dark!! Ah, it's worth picking up a hotel to sleep in. We took the opportunity to meet Valladolid, a magical small town of ChichenIza.

Drove 3.5 hours from Tulum only to find out the show has been suspended for over a year.
A waste of my entire day driving back and forth and the entire point of my trip was to see this light show.
Someone needs to update the website!

Does not do justice to the wonderful ruins.
The colourful lights on the ruins were fantastic to see. BUT..
Had to wait 2 hours in line for tickets.
Was not advised the show was only in Spanish. Way over priced. Poorly organised.
Clearly a money grab.
I would spend my time & money on a morning tour.

It was absolutely disgusting. I were there with my 8 y.o. son and my friend with 2 kids - 8 and 5 y.o. Before to come we checked website and found that program start at 7pm and flash photo not allowed. We didnt find anything about kids discount. Ok. We arrived at 6:30pm. We came to the main entrance with 3 kids and big tripod. We were guided to buy tickets and told that gate will be open at 7 so we have to wait. Ok. We went for tickets. While discussing kids discount I put tripod on the cassier window and it was clear its tripod. They didn't give any discount for kids. So we paid almost 500 peso for each of us. Then we had to stay on the line waiting for gates open. There were not many people, may be 100, but still a line. When we reach a gate I was told that tripod is not allowed. I asked to show me this in the rules. They didn't. It was not written anywhere. But they didn't let me in and I had to walk back to parking to leave tripod in the car. When I came back and we all together with 3 kids reached first stop on the site we were told that we need audio guide to follow the rout. I ran back for guides with 5 full price tickets in the hands. Guides people didnt want to provide guides for kids and I had long discussion with them saying that we paid for kids same amount and they deserve to learn now. Finally i got 4 guides for 5 of us at 7:15. We went finally at 7:20 for a walk which we could do as was explained on the entrance till 8pm. Kids were excited to see pyramids lighting and learn the history. At 7:25 we were stoped near to the seats and asked to sit and dont move. We tried to walk other site to the main pyramid to make photos. But we were enforced from there in a very rude way. Stuff members said we could walk till 7:25 only. It was big scandal which I filmed with my camera. We were enforced to sit at 7:30. For the next 30 minutes we were sitting on our sits waiting for a show. Show was very simple and basic. Day before we saw freep show on the convent walls and it was 10 times better. Kids couldn't see anything from their seats. Whole experience was awful. Just awful. On the exit I tried to get money back but office was closed. There were several employees and i filmed my dialog with them. Then I was provided with special paper form for feedback which I filled in and left there. I was promised that my claim will be delivered to the site management. If they will not return us money I will start legal process.
There are plenty of nice sites in Central America. Don't visit Chichen Itza if you don't want to be used and abused.

Going to see the night show was awesome. The lights and lack of crazy crowds were well worth the fee you have to pay. Book in advance through the website so you can get front row seats.
You start off by taking a waking tour through the ruins which are all beautifully illuminated. You can get an iPod to listen to and each area is numbered so you can follow along on your iPod.
BRING earphones thought...they do not provide them and they were not for sale either. If you don't have earphones you have to keep the iPod to your ear and listen through the external speaker....problematic when the main light show starts (see below).
After the walking tour - which is done at your own pace, they have set up reserved seating on one end facing the main pyramid. Then an amazing laser light show is projected onto the pyramid walls. It tells the story of the Mayan belief system and of the pyramids.
The light show is fantastic but the sound aspect is horrible. The sound engineer should be fired. The sound is just too loud. They have these giant speakers set up and it is twice as loud or more as any rock concert I have ever been too. We were in the front row to the right side right near the speaker....while we had the best view the sound was overwhelming. You had to have your ears plugged. And the narration is all in Spanish but there is an English version you can listen to with your iPod....but if you do not have earphones that can plug your ears and block out the majority of the external sound - you are going to have great difficulty hearing anything with the iPod external speaker up to your ear.
I have no idea why the speakers were so loud.....and why they had to be placed so close to the seats. Very bad set-up sound wise...

Show was cancelled by email less than one hour before you were supposed to get there - we were travelling from Valladolid so had already left and no longer had access to emails. Spent 3 hours round trip and similarly not allowed on site - got turned away by a security guard on the gate.
Emailed multiple email addresses asking for refund (in both English and Spanish), no response received to date over 10 days later.
We intend to call next but I have no faith in getting our money back. What a scam and such a disappointment as we had been really looking forward to it.

This is an incredible and different way to see an archaeological place. Be sure to visit the place at day as at night you only have 1 hour to walk through, after that you are directed to take your sits to enjoy the show. The night show is a different ticket than the day entrance. You can Buy the tickets to the night show on the website in advance and you can select the sitting place. Make sure to be 1 hour in advance as the entrance queue gets very long and if you’re one of the last people to get in you won’t have time to walk through the place. If you’re planning to stay at a hotel near Chichen Itza, be sure to have reservations in advance.

Went on site after 2.5 hours drive from Cancun, arrived 1 hour prior to show start and purchased my tickets on the spot. 20 mins before show start, staff communicated me they decided to cancel the show, with the excuse of rain. They would not even let me enter the site to see the building, and it was barely raining, it was just drizzling. They did sell very little tickets that day (about 15% of the ~500 seats), so I suspect cancelation was due to low tickets sale rather than rain, but this is speculation. Basically lost 5 hours drive and they couldn't even let me see the building. Requested refund on site which was processed on the spot and, as of now (6 days later), did not receive the refund yet. This is very poorly organized and unprofessional, and they are not associated to Chichen Itza. Seems it's some kind of company that got government approval to do the show on site (tickets are sold from a different website, not Chichen Itza's website). Drizzles are common in the region, so you are at high risk of missing a 5 hours trip, and possibly not getting your money back. Hands a little tied, they are in Mexico, I'm in the US, who can I complain to? Still trying to get my money back, which would be the very least a decent company would do....

Compramos por internet y al llegar nos dicen que el evento se canceló por fallas técnicas que pidamos el reintegro por internet, que teníamos 5 días para solicitarlo, estuvimos haciéndolo durante los 5 días y solo nos aparecía un mensaje que se estaba procesando la solicitud, nunca se nos devolvió nada.

La página para comprarlos es nochesdekukulkan , te recomiendo mucho que los reserves con la mayor anticipación posible para encontrar buen lugar. El recorrido de las ruinas inicia a las 7 pm y el espectáculo empieza a las 8 pm. El costo en la página dice que es de $510.00 por persona. Saludos y espero sea de ayuda.
