Well, the Avenida Kukulkan is the main street running all the way Zona Hoteliera. It derives its name from the Maya feathered deity who had super natural powers.
However, the boulevard is not of particular tourist interest. It's rather a long driving street with hotels dotted along it, some shopping malls and restaurants (who I wonder how they manage to survive, as almost all hotels around are all inclusive).
I also didn't find it interesting for walking as it doesn't pass by the sea, but by concrete monster hotels.

We do not blame tourists for thronging this place. The blame should go to policy of not tackling all sorts of bad deals and behavior going on in this avenue. Surely, the place could be cleaned up. Also, garbage all over the streets.

I think it is a great place to go dinning or go out at night. But I stayed here for long time during my vacations and I don't think it was a good choice for me.

Kukulcán Avenue along its 26 km. It connects all the hotels in the hotel zone from north to south, starting from Cancun and ending near the access to the airport. The numerous "truck" (bus) lines transport tourists from the most distant hotels to the most central area and vice versa.

If you're a tourist and driving a rental car, YOU WILL BE PULLED OVER ! I was warned at the car rental agency that police are super aggressive on the Cancun strip and will pull tourists over for even going 1 km over the limit. Needless to say, we were pulled over not even one block after leaving our hotel on the way to El Rey ruins our 1st day there ! The cops had no basis for pulling us over and made up a story first about me driving while on my phone, then contradicted himself by saying I was taunting him by waiving at him when I passed him. Which was it, was I on my phone or waving at you? He didn't seem to like me confronting his b.s. story. I did actually wave, to be friendly, we he was sitting on the side of the road, it was super early in the morning, and he was staring us down as we drove by him going a snails pace. He demanded my passport, which I refused to provide him. Then he refused to return my license claiming I would have to come to the station and pay a fine to get it back. I made it very clear I would neither come to the station nor pay a fine, that he was happy to keep my license, I would get a new one upon returning home but before I called and informed the embassy. I took a picture of him and he immediately demanded I delete it, "for his safety", or be arrested and go to jail. I called 066 and informed the police of what this officer was doing, in front of him, and the police dispatched informed me another officer would be coming to meet us. The cop immediately gave my ID back and let us leave. Moral of the story, don't allow them to intimidate you and call them out for their b.s. And... none of this is to mention the street itself is second rate version of any other tourist beach resort area you've ever been to. This experience really set the tone to ensure I'll never be coming back.

1st of all, all rental cars in Cancun have "TRS" as part of their license plate number. TRS stands for tourist. So everyone, including the cops know your a tourist driving a rental car. Our whole vacation in Cancun we avoided any contact with police by obeying all traffic laws. We wanted no problems or interaction with the cops there whatsoever. So, on our last day we were driving to the airport in our "TRS" rental car, with our luggage clearly visible in the back of the SUV, on the road to the airport in airport traffic, when I spot a police car off to the side of the road. The police car immediately pulls out behind our car and turns on his lights and sirens.
Mind you, I was in airport traffic which was slow moving, well below the speed limit. The cop asks for my drivers license and tells me I was speeding and had me get out of my car. He was a little surprised I spoke spanish so well and he began to ask me several questions about if I had any family in cancun or if I knew anyone that worked for the municipality. I was surprised by this questioning and told him I did not I was just there on vacation. He then told me I was disrespectful of the traffic laws in cancun by going 70 in a 40. Of course, I did not argue as I didn't want any problems.
The cop told me he was going to have to write me a ticket and would be confiscating my license and I would have to go to their office the next day to pick up my license and the ticket. I told him that would be impossible because we were headed to the airport to leave (like he didn't know). So, then he said, he would have to confiscate my rental car's license plate and I would have to pay a fine to the police dept and the rental agency which would be around $500.00 (dollars not pesos). I told him to go ahead and take the plate and I would pay the fine with the rental agency. He was shocked I opted for that choice and then went off on how he was still going to write me a ticket, take the plate and my driving record was going to be tarnished.
Or, wait for it, "we can settle it here" (in spanish of course). He told me I could avoid all this problem with a mere $80.00 (dollars not pesos). I told him I only had $40.00 and a credit card. He agreed to the $40 and I reached in my pocket to give it to him when he said "stop not here walk back to my car" So, I did and he opened his door to hide the transaction. So I paid him, he gave me back my license and off we went.
I got to Hertz and told the shuttle driver what happened and he said its quite common on the road to the airport because the cops know your leaving. the driver did say that if were to happen again to insist that they take the license plate from the rental car because there is an actual tourist fund/charge set up where if the plate is confiscated the city government pays for the fees if the plate is confiscated.
Just beware and ready for this if your on your way to the airport and you get pulled over. Good luck!

I rented a Car so my wife and I can drive thru Cancun and enjoy at our own pace.
Coming back to Hotel one night from dinner, q few block from my hotel i got pulled over by local police and i got SHOoK down....
I did not realize my lights where not on all the way, common mistake for getting to know your new rented vehicle. Well police found a way to make money off me. He looked at what i had on first, saw my watch and dress clothes and proceeded to ask me, Do u know why i pulled u over.? I said in Spanish, yes sir, i mistakenly didnt turn my light on all the way, i apologize, i just rented car yesterday.
He didnt seem to like my answer amd proceed me to step out the vehicle and asked for my license.
I gave it to him. Then he asked, where u drinking? I said no sir. Just dinner. He didnt believe me. He said u sure, i said yes im sure. U can ask the restaurant i was at.
Then he says, well driving with no lights on is a ticket and i have to take your license so u can pay at police station. I ok. How much is ticket? He said 2,000 pesos, which is like $100 dollars.
I said. I believe that to be unfair for a simple mistake but no problem, ill see u tmrw at police station. Before i can end my sentence, the officers partner says, OR discount right here, right now. %50 discount. I said really, in english and spanish. I only got 40. Hes said well take it. Dont let us stop u again....
And took money and they hurried to leave me there....

A personal opinion: Dont get all inclusive unless you are heavy drinker or like to eat all the time. Save that money for the trips to Chichen Itza, Cenotes, Xcaret, Tulum, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen or simply eat out in different venues. !!! Talk to the mexicans, take a moment to know their heritage, their culture... Mexicans are great, go downtown and chat with them, they are nice people, and please leave your "Gringo" Attitude at home.
Tips: If you want to rent a car, search and do it online is cheaper, but be prepared to pay a mandatory third party insurance which is not much. Normally an economic car cost directly at the office about 70USD, but Online 15USD + 15USD mandatory insurance= 30USD per day!!. If you rent a Car and want to go to Chichen Itza which is in Yucatan State be prepared to pay the MOST EXPENSIVE 60USD TOLL EVER, Back and forth.
If you Stay in Cancun and want to go to Playa del Carmen, it is about 45 Minutes driving, so do it early in the morning so you can enjoy plenty of this nice city. Tulum is further south also with beautiful beaches, The road Cancun-Tulum is very good with plenty of signs and directions, no problem just respect the signs, Mexican police don't joke.
Don't Shop souvenirs or anything at the ZONA HOTELERA (hotel area), unless you want to be ripped off and pay 5 times more... Go downtown Cancun, take a chance at the souvenirs mayan shops out of Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Isla Mujeres. It is ok to bargain but be fair.
If you want to get a trip for instance XCARET or XEL-HA or whatever, go to a Certified Tourist office and bargain the trip Don't do it in the hotel is way too expensive, if you are married couple with same adress you get discounts too. For instance a Trip to XEL-HA cost at the hotel 130USD without transportation but in a tourist booth I paid 90USD P/pax with Transportation included, but make sure no funny business is included with the transportation, some of them make a stop in some Souvenirs shops or some tourist trap, make sure about it when transportation is hired.

i rented a car and get robbed by two police officers who asked me to pay a 2000 pesos fine for velocidad without giving me a ticket.
this happened yesterday at 10.30pm on kukulcan blvd.
2 policemen who arrested me only because I am a tourist in a rented car.
he asked me where I was from before telling the price. i believe Switzerland was not the right answer!
to all tourists, no tickets, nothing to pay!

Hola mi esposo y yo queremos ir del 30 de Diciembre 2019 al 7 de enero2020 para pasar fin de año acá, pero no sabemos donde pegarnos la fiesta, pensamos hospedarnos en el hotel ibiz de Cancún centro pero no sabemos si Uber esta sirviendo en la ciudad para trasladarnos, que tan peligroso esta? Y si alguien me puede decir donde es rico y barato salir a comer? Y cuales bares se ponen bonitos en las tardes y noches.... Vamos en plan de pegarnos la fiesta algún consejo???

Viajar en bus es super sencillo cuesta 12 pesos o $1, sĂłlo lo tomas hacia una vĂa y al regreso al contrario, los choferes conocen bien nos nombres de los hoteles y principales lugares y hay servicio 24 horas.
