The Oaxaca Lending Library is a great resource as well as a place to read and relax. The staff, volunteers, and bulletin boards were very helpful on providing information on what was going on in the city. There is a small café that sells coffee, drinks, and bagels in the morning. I had an enjoyable two afternoons recently playing bridge... More

A wonderful English speaking lending library, bookstore, second hand books, many spaces to get together, have lessons in Spanish in downtown Oaxaca. They organize expert lectures on the surrounding archeological sights, they take well organized hikes in the surrounding hills and they acquaint you with the history and architecture of Oaxaca itself, at prorated and very affordable membership fees.

The OLL offers not only rooms full of English and Spanish books, interesting classes on everything your can possibly imagine, but also lectures, and various events scheduled almost every day, and information on 'everything Oaxaca'. Also available for a fee are fascinating trips into the region (eg. Hierve el Agua). Thumbs up!

I did not do as much as I had hoped at the OLL, but believe me, there was a lot to do. I heard a great lecture and saw a wonderful film. Sorry I missed some of the tours. Nice folks, too. If you go, be a pal and join for the month---you're supporting a great organization.

Check out the website for OLL. Hikes, lectures, movies in Oaxaca are listed. Attended a lecture, a movie and took the tour to Mitla through the OLL.

Great source of information of things happening in oaxaca cannot dispute that but seems to run by old parochial north americans/canadians like in merida who although informative are a tight knit group and regard outsiders a bit warily in my experience they know everything and disregard anyone else.

We didn't check out books or go on the walks, which we heard were fabulous. We did participate in the language exchange on Saturday, which made us feel like we were giving at least a little something back to the community.

Like many expats, I live in Oaxaca thanks to the Oaxaca Lending Library. It is 50 years old this year and keeps getting better. My favorite activity is Intercambio which is free 10-12 every Saturday. Mexicans are paired with English speakers for an hour in both languages. It's the best way to polish your Spanish. There is also a children's... More
