Good overview of artisan crafts....

This used to be the place tongo for highnend crafts in Oaxaca.......It has been surpassed by a number of craft collectives in Oaxaca City.

Good prices and a good range of items typical of the region. Well worth the walk, but closed Sunday and holidays. Much better quality than in the markets.

Aripo is absolutely beautiful to visit. It is arranged around an open courtyard and each village craft is in a separate room. After shopping all over town we found that the quality at Aripo was the highest and the price for goods was the most reasonable.

This state-sponsored workshop and gallery (multiple small galleries) features fine work in wood, metal, textiles, jewelry and garments by Oaxacans. We enjoyed the selection and the good service here. It was not at all crowded and, in some ways, a more pleasant experience than trying to shop from vendors in the Zocalo.
