The Mercado 20 de Noviembre was one of Oaxaca's large markets (in addition to the Benito Juarez Market). It was situated inside a big building close to the Benito Juarez Market. The market was a maze of narrow aisles lined with small stalls selling a...More

The Pasillo de carne, or hall of meat, in this market was one of the highlights of our trip to Oaxaca. It was a fun experience to pick a vendor and have them cook our meat to order. The cecina (spiced pork) was so delicious...More

Fabulous market where you can buy food to take and also eat in. We had a great lunch there, everything was delicious and very local.

If Oaxaca wasn't configured like a chessboard, you could wander endlessly in this market. Typical local fashions and wares are on display (aquarium section was a surprise), but much of the space is devoted to food. If you truly want to eat like a local,...More

We visited twice. The first time we sat down at a counter, called Alex. (I didn’t want to eat at a place where the girls were thrusting menus in my face.) Alex was serving one thing only. Green Mole enchilada with beef on top. It...More

This market has a good diversity of prepared food. Loved the chocolate shake! Hated the BBQ smells. Choices of vegetables for purchase. Watch the process for making Mole and do some tastings also.

Most travelers would say that markets are the best way to try local food. That is exactly the case with this one. All the YouTube videos showing Oaxacan food probably included this spot. It doesn't disappoint at all. The colors, aromas, and sights are exactly...More
