This review is for a company called Monte Alban Tours, rather than a tour of Monte Alban (the archaeological site). They are on Alcala, near the Santo Domingo church. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, and asked if they could arrange a private hike for 4 of on Monday, from Benito Juarez National Park to La Neveria. Both Ismael... More

After a bad experience in Mexico City where we were hi-jacked and our half-day tour became a ten-hour marathon, we were cautious about visiting the ruins at Mont Alban. Our organisers (Turismo el Conventura de Oaxaca) were great in that they arranged for us to go on one tour that left early and somehow come back with another group. No... More

A good and economical way to visit Monte Alban from Oaxaca is to take the round trip bus. But it leaves 20-30 minutes late and picks up and drops off on different blocks in the city centre. So one needs patience.

We were in Oaxaca for the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) festivities at the end of October/early November. That is a great time to visit Oaxaca to experience the simple pleasures of parades in the streets, excellent food, including pan de muertos (special holiday bread), and galleries and museums. (Don't miss the English language tour at the... More

We booked a private tour through this company, basically we hired a car and driver for eight hours and we selected our destinations. The price for the day was very reasonable and Diego, our driver was great and spoke perfect English. As we have been to Oaxaca several times, we knew where we wanted to go. Monte Alban tours made... Friends were here for Day of the Dead and wanted to see Monte Alban. I have taken a bus there before but since they are older I decided we should go on a tour. Monte Alban Tours is located at 100-A Alcala just up for Independencia. The van was new and clean, the driver was good, and the tour was... More

Try to have a tour guide, and if you don't want to buy let them know. (Of course you will want a souvenir). TAKE your comfy shoes, you have to climb the pyramid, and remember all that goes up, has to go down, take care! You can sit on the stairs to go down. Lovely sight.

Wish I had read these reviews before we wandered into this office. The same thing happened to us. We were assured we were going on an English speaking tour. There were 20 on the bus and only the 2 of us spoke English. The guide would speak 3 to 4 minutes in Spanish and then 10 words of English. Save... More

We were asked $200 for a tour to Monte Albán, plus Culiapán, Arrazola and Coyotepec, a full day trip without including entrance fees, neither meals. On top of that, we would spend less than 2 hours in each place. We were more interested in Monte Albán, so we went by ourselves. We found out buses direct to Monte Albán for... More

I live in Oaxaca and booked through them when a friend came to visit. They weren't prepared for English speakers so when we arrived to Monte Alban there wasn't a tour guide for us. I speak Spanish so I was able to communicate with the driver to find out what was going on. Once they got a guide, it was... More
