Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This small, but quaint little church is located in one of the busiest streets in Mexico City. You can’t miss it because it’s architectural design lures you in to see the beauty of the inside of this church. I love churches, cathedrals and basilicas. I’m always at peace when I do visit places like this.

Along Francisco I Madero Rd is a majestic, aged church whose interior beauty is hidden from the public.

Would strongly suggest a brief visit to see the interior and observe the devout patrons inside.

Smack in the middle of Centro Historico is this beautiful baroque beauty whose gorgeous entrance belies an even more wonderful interior. Immediately on the right of the entrance is an altar to the Virgin of Guadalupe before the entrance to the main church, which like the shrine before it is a golden confection.
A beautiful, beautiful church.
On Sundays you have musicians near the entrance which add to the already overwhelming charm of the place.
Highly recommended, especially as it is so near to other places of interest like the Bellas Artes, the gardens, and the other atmospheric buildings in the Historic Centre.

This little church, the Church of San Francisco, is conveniently located directly opposite the House of Tiles (the subject of separate reviews), so you can duck in and see both.
When we were there, it was a few days before the Day of Dead celebrations, and the entry was decked out in flowers and skeletons accordingly.
Plus, there seemed to be some sort of Church fete or market place within the grounds, again themed around the Day of the Dead. Plenty to see and photograph then

Stumbled upon this beautiful and historic church when wandering through the Centro Historico. Located on pedestrianized Ave Francisco Madero and well worth a look if in the area.

This is one of the first churches in Mexico and the continent. It was built by the Franciscans and the gardens were huge, the Alameda park was part of the monastery. The facade is beautiful and the altars are also amazing. The altarpiece is covered in gold.

Templo de San Francisco is a Franciscan monastery that has an impressive doorway but otherwise an underwhelming interior other than the murals in the main chapel. It is on Madero Street, making it a convenient stop if walking along.

This church site was once huge. This is all that remains of it and the main facade is walled in. Remnants of chapels can be seen in surrounding streets and much was pulled down in the anticlerical period. We were unable to visit the old cloisters, which were saved from destruction and are now a Methodist chapel, as they can only be seen by prior appointment. If sufficiently interested in this sad period of Mexican church history this would be well worth doing.

Oddly the church is west facing with the altar at the west end.

Beautiful 800 year old churc of baroque architecture. Set back from main pedestrian walk to zocalo. Very nice art perhaps from Spanish masters.
