Tamayo museum houses two rooms of his work and some of his personal collection, however, the majority of the museum has special exhibits. I wanted to learn more about the artist and was disappointed. As usual nothing in English and no guides to help with your questions.. Given that Tamayo was a contemporary of the great muralists, I was disappointed... More

A previous review said Tamayo work is not there. In fact there are two full rooms of his paintings plus a good collection of works he owned. The current expo is of Tacita Dean ... a deep and varied exploration of her work.

The Tamayo museum is a very cool, modern building in the Chapultepec park complex. It houses a permanent collection of Rufino Tamayo pieces as well as temporary displays from other artists. The lighting is awful for a museum. The other main detraction was a lack of well-placed descriptors or identifiers, and in fact offered very little information at all. Admission... More

This may be one of the best kept secrets in Mexico City. The museum, the collection and the architecture is all first rate. The name is deceiving because the collection is world class with works from both the old and new world. Worth it.

Great contemporary art and the best place to eat a quick lunch we found in Mexico City. Art reflects new Mexican work and the cafe food was outstanding.

This museum was nice, but very small and half of it was being remodeled. It was however free on the Sunday we went, so worth the trip.

I discovered this museum as I was walking away from the Archeological Museum-it is small and focused, at the time it had only one exhibit. But the attention paid to that one single show was so evident that I spent 2 hours there, and this is a small museum. It is worth your time, especially because it is not crowded.... More
