Due to my husband being Catholic, we generally have to visit every church on every trip. Though I have no interest in church history, I do find that a real taste of the local culture is embedded in the the art of the churches. This is no exception. It is a must see as are most of the churches in... More

This church has such an amazing history, I was with a walking tour that took us up here, (via car as there was a festival on that day and it was impossible to get through the crowds below) the interior is beautiful with amazing gold altars and wall decorations.

Like so many of the reviews, this church is totally amazing. If you think that the exterior is ornate, wait until you see the interior. One does not know which way to look first! It probably is the most beautiful church we have been to in Mexico and there have been many. It is difficult to describe, one has to... More

The grandeur of this church is just what you would expect in a city of Art and architecture. The stonework and the "cements" always amaze. Why can't modern engineers create something that will last and endure the weather lie those of the past ?

The Templo de San Diego is below ground--because Guanajuato was built up around it after serious flooding hundreds of years ago. This gives it an eerie feel, similar to even older sites in Europe. There are traces of the original fresco painting still visible. We were lucky to be able to attend a choral concert of religious music in the... More

Part of Guanajuato's history the church is located right in the center of everything. Night life around Church of San Diego is most charming. I was fortunate enough to listen to the church bells everyday since I was staying at the hotel next door. It was a beautiful experience. I did not go inside the church this time around but... More

San Diego church is at the very heart of the city, where the famous "callejoneadas" start and the singers and dancers (originally students as per the tradition brouhgt here in colonial days) reel off their stories of the town. The church itself, another good example of Churrigueresque style, is worth a look both inside and outside.
