This 14-foot-high double arch is similar to the Arc de Triomphe and was built in 1942 to commemorate the city's 400th anniversary.

The architectural design is impressive. This used to be one of the entrances to Guadalajara. It is a massive structure and worth making a detour to appreciate.

This area is modeled after a typical American Shopping Center w/o any regional flavor. This may be what you are looking for in a vacation, but was definitely not for us.

We traveled through the arch daily to the mission site at Enrique Diaz de Leon University. It really catches your eye. Worth a good look. Blocks away is the large fountain with the city symbol, Minerva, centered in it.

I have eaten here for the last 7 years on an annual trip and it is consistently great food. Very good fresh cerviche and appetizers and great main course entrees.

See by bus or auto one of Guadalajara's landmarks, Los Arcos. And, if you are hungry there are several delicious nearly restaurants on Lopez Cotilla, a nearby street.

The arch is beautiful to see during the day and at night. Very intricate details with the carvings and tiles, and looks so different when it is lit up for an evening walk.
