Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a HUGE facility and you could spend all day .... or just an hour or two.
If asked, some members of the staff are happy to give free tours and commentary (in Engilsh, too). We connected with a staff guide named Vladimir Orozco (no relation to the famous painter!) who gave us an EXCELLENT orientation and explanation of the works in the main chapel where the murals and "Man on Fire" dome are.
We definitely better appreciate the history, sociology, politics of that early 20rth century period because of Vladimir's commentary. After about 20-25 mins with him, we only had time to visit a few other galleries, and Vladimir suggested (and directed us to) some that met our interests and some that were new (and very good!)
The placards in the museum are bilingual, highly informative and surprisingly honest (e.g., "Jalisco's painters from this period were mostly men; the women were not as welcome, and basically the feminist painters from this period were mostly from Mexico City where they were welcome.")
As mentioned, the facility itself is huge – 2.5 acres. The galleries house all periods of local and regional art of all types – paintings, sculpture, prints, even cartoons. And Jalisco has a lot of really interesting art to offer. Definitely worth seeing.

A beautiful architectural complex of indoor and outdoor spaces, this former hospital and orphanage is known most importantly for its amazing murals by José Clemente Orozco. If you are not a fluent Spanish- speaker, ask for the English tour of the murals. Wait till you here the story about the mural in the photo! Orozco’s disdain for authoritarian power and the tyranny of machines which oppress people are particularly relevant in our times, 90 years after he painted them. You can also find important Orozco murals at the Jalisco government offices (Palacio de Gobierno) in in the historic core, and at the MUSA, across the street from the University of Guadalajara.

Located in the center of the city, it is a museum that you have to know, the architecture is beautiful, its main attraction is a very famous painting "The Burning Man (Orozco mural)" that is located on the ceiling of the chapel, beautiful and imposing, you cannot miss it, there are guided tours from time to time, in which they explain everything amazing about the place, history, art and curiosities of the place.
It also has very important temporary exhibitions. Admission for Mexicans is 55 pesos and on Tuesdays it is FREE.

If this place is not on your radar, you should consider it. It is beautiful. Great art and architecture. Located near all the other downtown attractions. We went on a Tuesday and it was free. Come to find out, it is free every Tuesday.
The wall and ceiling murals are beautiful and they tell a great story. They have QR codes that you can scan that explain each mural in English or Spanish. They also have art exhibits in the other rooms. Take your AirPods and enjoy an hour or so exploring the place.
They don’t allow big bags inside, but they have a storage area that is free.

This historic site opened in 1810 as Casa de la Caridad y la Misericordia. Over the years this 538’ x 476’ complex has been an orphanage, a military barracks and is now dedicated to disseminating the arts. We came to see some of the 57 frescoes by Jose Clemente Orozco whose work we saw earlier at the MUSA art museum, especially the domes "Man of Fire."
Wonderful visit costing 2 seniors US$6.

Have visited Hospicio Cabanas multipe times with guests to Guadalajara to view Orozco's exquisite murals. The building itself is lovely and has a coffee shop, which is great for just relaxing and decompressing after taking in Orozo's works. This is not to be missed on a visit to Guadalajara!

I loved this cultural center. It was big and beautiful, old and open, and there were not many people so I didn’t have to fight crowds or have ppl ruin my pictures. There was an amazing exhibit called Calisco that was stunning. The building itself was amazing and the Orozco mural lining the main hall was absolutely jaw dropping. It left an impression I won’t soon forget. Everything from the plazas and atria to the halls and corridors were a sight to see. I’d say it’s my number one must see in Guadalajara.

It’s important to have a guide who can walk you through these wonderful works of art. While Orozco did not name or explain his murals, there are many interpretations of his work. We went with an Airbnb tour and this was our final stop after 2 1/2 hours of touring Centro. FABULOUS!

This museum is truly one of the must see sites in all of Mexico. The murals are stunning and of great historical importance. And the exhibition rooms are filled with interesting and worthwhile exhibits which will engage and challenge the viewer. I can not write enough compliments for the delights this museum holds for the visitor.

Interesting history, amazing archetecture, unbelievable murals! Our tour guide had incredible depth of knowledge on the artist Orozco & gave us insight to the meanings of his frescos. Go here & learn something! Excellent way to spend a couple of hours!
