As an American resident of Cuernavaca, the first thing I did was to correct the Google map location. The second is to note that Cuernavaca has two main squares, collectively called the "Zocolo." The larger is the "Plaza de la Constitucion" located between the "Palacio de Cortes" and the "Palacio de Gobernacion" which is an office building for the state government. The "Morelotes" statue is located here. The smaller "Jardin Juarez" is north of the "Palacio de Gobernacion" and includes the famous kiosk designed by Gustav Eiffel.
The "Plaza de la Constitucion" is large and open, surrounded by benches relaxing. Families like to spend time here, especially on Sundays. Sometimes there are political demonstrations, sometimes there are special exhibits (food, handicrafts, books, etc.), and often there are clowns or jugglers.
There are numerous open-air cafes, fast food restaurants, and shops around the Plaza. It's the best place to purchase souvenirs, and no visitor should miss it.

The Plaza de la Constutution isn't particularly exceptional for any reason other than it's star centerpiece, the gazebo designed by Gustave Eiffel. I was actually surprised and delighted to stumble upon the construction so many miles away from Paris. The fin de siècle architecture of the gazebo/band stand, elevated above the plaza gives this small square most, if not all, of its charm. The fruit and juice stands below it offer some most needed refreshment on a hot day. As it is a relatively small area just off the central plaza and next to the government buildings, it doesn't take much of a crowd to fill it up. Nonetheless, after my visit to the Palacio de Cortes across the square, it was the perfect location to find a bench, enjoy a cup of mango and papaya, watch the ballon sellers, while, at the same time, relax in the glow of another beautiful Eiffel creation. There are many interesting things to see and do within walking distance, great cafes and restaurants, Casa Spencer and Brady Museums, the Cortez Palace, the Cathedral and the Borda Gardens, it's well worth the trip to colonial Cuernavaca.

Yes! The kiosco of the PLaza de la Constitución was designed by Mr. Eifel. If you want to know more about this, visit the Plaza and taste a Esquites adiring the kiosko.

Great Plaza for sitting, enjoying the fresh tropical fruit stands, having shoes polished, listening to the vendor's calls for ballons, toys, and cookies, tasting the many traditional corn offerings such as esquites and enjoying the Thursday's performances of musicians playing marimba music. Unfortunately, Tripadvisor's title for this Plaza is incorrect as too the address. This Plaza is in the Centro Historico of Cuernavaca.

What a great zocalo! (Two zocalos, actually.)
Throngs of people of all ages. Vendors, jugglers, musicians, fire-eaters, little kids bouncing huge inflatable "pencils" off the crowded paving stones. Statues. Seniors gingerly dancing to an old song; break-dancers with "Brooklyn" t-shirts. Elote-sellers trying to outdo each other with their pitches.
The elegant gazebo is fantastic, elevated about 15' up, with shops below-grade level underneath. What a great concept. When I was there, a battle of the "La Banda" bands was underway. Local tuba players and visiting trumpeters vied for attention in a great, brassy clash.
At sunset, hundreds of birds descend on one tree overlooking the zocalo. What a surreal sound and sight. Check it out.
Sit in the zocalo for awhile or grab an icy cold beverage at one of the restaurants surrounding the zocalos. A sweet scene.

It is a park surrounded by benches with a gazebo in the middle. The point of interest is that is was designed by Mr. Eiffel, of Eiffel tower fame.

locations in this authentic Mexican city. It is not your typical tourist trap. This is what I fondly call the REAL Mexico! Families stroll and it is like a step back in time.

This is an interesting place to people watch. Really starts ginning on Friday and Saturday nights. Lots of vendors, some performers, food, etc. When I was in the center of the city, I usually made it a point to walk through this just to feel the vibes of the city. Other than the people and the vendors, nothing else. It is located in the center of the city
