This is the third highest peak in North America. I went with my son-in-law who is an experienced mountaineer and my daughter. Neither my daughter or I have much mountaineering experience. We hired OMG (Orizaba Mountain Guides) as our guide service. They were excellent. Very safety conscious and experienced. They had all the necessary gear and even loaned us some... More

We flew to Mexico City, used an amazing small local company for all the logistics (Nómada), drove to Tlachichuca, took jeeps to the Hut at 14,000 ft and summited the very next day. Gorgeous climb, the company we used took care of all transportation, fees, food and water (cheaper than if we tried to set it all up/buy on our... More

We were a party of 2 and used Summmit Orizaba, which is pricey but makes the trip very convenient, and the family is a joy to meet. They provided a place to stay, meals, experience and advice, and a ride up the nasty road up to the huts. You really do need a 4x4 to make it all the way... More

We arrived in Mexico City on Dec 27th and tried to drive up to the hut in a Toyota Yaris. We got pretty close to the tree line but the mud made it pretty difficult and then when we made it to the hut the next day we saw a few other areas we may have had trouble with. We... More

Used Summit Orizaba and their excellent thee day all inclusive package. 1:25am start from the Hut got our slow team over the Jalampa Glacier to the summit by 10:30am. Hard slogging but nothing technical or dangerous unless your dumb enough to fall un-roped and not self-rescue. And if that's probable, hire a guide or don't go. Summit views of the... More

We booked with OMG and I will say that they were top notch all the way. Roberto has set up a fantastic outfit to safely give you all you hope for. Safety is number one, his guides are great, Juan was magic, he was fantastic. The guides are climbing almost everyday so they give each other reports coming right off... More

When you are over 5,000 meters above sea level and watch the sunrise, it just will leave you breathless. It's the tallest mountain/volcano in Mexico and 3rd in North America. Basically there are 2 ways to get to the different refugees and start climbing. Consider to stay at least one night to begin ascension at 2 or 3 am to... More

Pico De Orizaba I am an experienced UK mountain leader, hiker and climber and in addition I spend a lot of time out in Latin America, especially in gorgeous Mexico. Firstly El Pico de Orizaba (Citlaltépetl) or simply ‘Pico’ is a striking stand alone volcano situated in the Western state of Veracruz about a five hour drive from Mexico City.... More

Serious hike. but lucky with awesome weather and amazing views! recommend going with a guide since they are knowledgable and will know more about the mountain than you. it is truly an experience of a lifetime climbing the 3rd tallest mountain of North America. You start off at the Stone hut where you can camp out and get some rest/... More

This was one of the best experiences of my life. I did it without preparation. It was magic. I walk all the way to the refuge with all my gear alone, lost hope, found hope with a cool guy who was looking for a buddy and made it to the top and back down. It was awesome! You can find... More
