Comalcalco is a Mayan site that is not frequently visited. It's considered on of the most western of the ancient Mayan cities, and was active in the classic period, and had ties tot he sites of Tortuguero and Palenque. It's interesting because the builders used fired bricks made with sea shells, rather than the stones used at other sites. This... More

Comalcalco ruins are just outside the town of Comalcalco, about 60 kilometers northwest of Villahermosa on the road to Paraiso. This is the only Mayan city built of brick.
