Fantastic cave, and I've seen hundreds, both wild and commercial. The guide on 1/25 from 5-615 p.m. would do better as a farm hand rustling cattle. He clearly hated his job and tourists. There were only ten people in our group, one of them on a cane, but he continually raced ahead and shut out the lights, leaving us unable to take pictures. Three times he suggested we turn back and end the tour early. He gave almost zero information on the history or geology of the cave. I could give several more examples of his sneering, condescending demeanor with paying customers but I'm getting mad just recalling him. He did not wear any i.d. Additionally, the sales people there are ridiculous! I get having to make a living, but we were almost constantly surrounded by multiple vendors shoving beads, baskets, and food samples,in our faces. I felt like a tuna in a shark pool! They were out of control! If they'd just stay in their booths and call to us, I might consider checking out their products. The caverns are indeed beautiful and impressive. They’re worth a trip. It’s around 2.5 km of walking including two somewhat steep ascents on steps carved from rock. Our research told us to expect that, as a 75 year old I was able to do it, but not easily. Unexpected we’re: The lack of adequate handrails for most of walk, which las on a damp walkway. A group of 50+, vs 20 advertised, with the guide proceeding with his narrative while half the group was too far away to hear. Finally, although the entry was accompanied by a guide, the return was not. So people were making their way on slippery walkway with very little light. I’m not saying one shouldn’t go, but that advance awareness is helpful in deciding.

The Ejidatarios who manage the park are abusive, I wish someone would regulate them, their facilities are disgusting (dirty, old and uncomfortable) and they also have the luxury of asking for $60 for parking for 2 hours on the ground and without shade, it is an excess, blessed impunity, from one year to the next they increase the cost from $80 (2023) to $150 (2024) but in exchange for what??? Everything is decadent and improvised. Do not abuse tourism, do not forget that it is your source of work...

The caves are amazing and a must see! Getting there from Taxco was however a bit of a pain. I've read about colectivos going there, but non to be found on the day either on the way or back. Eventually found that you can only get a bus from Estrella de Blanco on the main road of Taxco, $42 one way. Bus leaves at 11:25am, hourly I think. They drop you on the main road and it is then a short walk to the caves. Cave tours happen every hour, try and time it right. After the tour, I made the mistake to ask for a colectivo again. The taxi driver said he would take me to taxco for $30, but ended up dropping me at the main road, less than a km away. Most expensive taxi in Mexico - beware! You then catch the same bus back to taxco.

This was a last minute trip and I have to say...WOW! The cave is huge! The walk is about 2hr and about 4 miles 2 in and 2 out, we bought the whole experience including the underground cave tour, if you take that tour make sure you know how to swim (90% recommended as the there are some high spots where you either climb or take the small river). Make sure to take non-slip shoes as the rocks as pretty slippery and if you will get in the water i would suggest that your phone be water resistent so that you can record your tour and at the end of the underground cave you get jump into the river about 10-15 feet off but IT IS FREEZING COLD!

Las Grutas de Cacahuanilpa is well worth the bit of a detour it takes to get to the site. Located about 30 minutes from Taxco, the caves are sure to impress all who visit. You will need to take a guided tour into the caves and tickets can be purchased at the entrance. Tours generally leave every hour (may be more frequent on weekends and busier tourist times) and last about 1.5 hours. The guide tells you the stories about the shapes and shadow each of the massive stalagmites and stalactites makes, and since the cave is very dark, the guide turns on lights in each of the zones you enter, then turns them off as you leave. Once you reach the end of the cave (well as far as they let you go) you walk back on your own. Please remember to tip your guide and also note there is a bathroom in the middle of the cave as well as a small amphitheatre that is sometimes used for intimate and unique concerts.
There are options to add on "rafting", zipline, and horse tours. The rafting tour is cheap in price and quality. First you need to walk quite a bit down a hill to the riverbed, where you discover small rubber boats from Costco that can hold about 4 adults. They paddle you into one of the caves, then down the river a bit, then you have to either walk back up the hill or pay for a horse to take you back up to the parking lot. If you have ever used floated in a rubber dingy before, I would say skip the rafting trip as it really is not worth the time to do.

We were glad to move right ahead of our guided in Spanish group and really enjoyed walking through the cave along the lit path all by ourselves. We wouldn’t have understood the long-winded guide and didn’t have to endure the big group’s snail pace. Glad we wore good shoes as the stone path was wet and slippery in spots.
We took a big comfortable bus from the bus station in Taxco (40 pesos each) and rode in a local’s van (35 pesos) back to Taxco.

In the boarder between Morelos and Guerrero states you can find Cacahuamilpa Caves. They have several activities extras like zip line for $50 pesos, subterranean river acivities, horseback riding and more. We just visited the amazing caves which you would not believe how beautiful they are. This is a Must trip if you visit Morelos or Guerrero states. We paid 45 pesos per adult and $32 children under 12 years. It was fun for the whole family ( 63 - 4 years). I hope you give your self time and visit this amazing place. One thing be careful with bees and wasp that are close to the garbage cans.

The place is around 1 hour from taxco city and you can find a cheap public transport (70 peso for round trip)
The ticket for the caves cost around 150 peso which includes boating on the river. The caves will offer you a mesmerizing view of calcium bi carbonate structures and if you like historical and natural places you will be going to love it. Its a must visit if you are travelling to taxco.

My husband and I decided to go to Taxco after hearing about it from different sources. Our guide BTW is great, thank you TA raters, I got his name from you, yes you...his name is Roberto Alarcon phone #044-744-107 71 63 & email robertoalrey@yahoo.com.mx. I'm pretty sure he is one of the best. Case in point, he had cold towels for us which we appreciated a lot, water, etc. On our trip to Taxco, he had coffee from Starbucks when he picked us up at the hotel @ 6am. I thought that was cool. Our agreement is to go to Taxco but the day before, we met a guy who told us about Caves of Cacahuamilpa which is 30 minutes away from Taxco. We asked him to take us there after Taxco and no problem, that is absolutely wonderful. In the end, my husband and I were in awe that we believe this cave is one of the most amazing sights in Central Acapulco. They are huge and over 80 meters high at the highest and they have concerts with such personalities such as the 3 tenors, Andrea Bucelli, etc. However, the concert is only in the month of May. Hint: do not go with the group. Pay P300 pesos to have your own guide, it is well worth it. Make sure you bring comfortable shoes, it is a long walk.

Si es largo el camino, para llegar a la gruta hay varios escalones los cuales de regreso tienen que subiry son varios de verdad, hay sillas de ruedas pero solo es para medio recorrido ya que 900 metros son escaleras!

From mexico city, you can take a bus with Estrella de ojo at terminal del Sur. They leave at 10:05am, 12pm etc. Once in Taxco, you can take a bus from the main road at estrelle de Blanco. The bus drops you on the main road and then it's a short walk to the caves. I've read about colectivos going there, but I couldnt find any. The taxi drivers at the caves charge $30 for less than 1km ride to the main road. Enjoy the caves, they are amazing!

Quisiera saber cuánto tiempo toma el recorrido dentro de las grutas, saber si uno solamente quiere llegar a una parte pueda regresarse, si es un lugar muy encerrado y qué tan lejos en tiempo queda de Taxco, quiero ir desde el df de ida y vuelta este sábado. gracias
