Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We toured the old ruins of the church and fort in San Blas. An older gentleman was a bilingual historian and offered information. Beautiful old ruins of a church and a fort which once protected the port of San Blas in the 1500's. Lots of history including the visit from Fray Junipero Serra on his way to build missions in Baja and Alta California.

We visited la Contaduria in out quest to get to know a bit more of San Blas history. The Contaduria is a Fort which was used to defend San Blas from pirates. San Blas used to be the most important port in jorth mexico in very early times when the Nao de China, a Galeon, used to travel between San Blas and Manila. Years later the route was changed to Acapulco-Manila and the port lost importance.
The Contaduria hasn't have maintenance for a very long time you can see it in the "ruins" which are still left at the Fort up the hill and in the fantastic church further down the hill. Both buildings are rather ruins but exactly this gives it a mystical flair. Some information at the entrance helps you imagine how it might have looked in the past.
Be aware that at the Contaduria there is an older man who parents himself as a history expert and starts explaining you some facts. We were a bit concerned when he approached us but found out he just wanted to sell the books he wrote about San Blas but he gets your attention first by telling you some stories of the Fort. We bought the 4 books from him for 100 pesos all. Who knows if what he wrote is real but he was a story teller 70+ years old, still working and with passion. We thought it was a fair way to make his living.
The views from the Fort are very nice. You can see the ocean, the lighthouse, the river and the town.
There is a karaoke restaurant at the Fort, try and avoid it.
The government of Nayarit has started a program to renovate the Fort but seems to take it very slowly.
No entrance fee as of yesterday.

A short taxi ride will take you up to the old church ruins and the fort. Great views of San Blas and the ocean. Good perspective of where everything is.

Well worth a visit. There is a small restaurant there that serves drinks and nice Mexican food. Tables overlooking the bay. It’s a lovely place for Comida. Small but the people were very welcoming and the food was good. Charming. The chairs were all brightly painted with Mexican scenes.

Awesome place to learn a little history of San Blas. Definitely recommend it and it’s better that you take a taxi and some bug repellent as there are many mosquitos.

We went to the fort because we were told the view was phenomenal...and it was! We got a short tour by a guy who was super friendly, but didn't speak much English. We had our picnic lunch there and then moved on to our next stop! Kids enjoyed looking at the canons!

You must visit!! Only $10 pesos. ($1.00 dollar to visit.) No charge for Children. No time frame. Enjoy the day. Great place for pictures. Lots of history to be told. Staff is wonderful. Will fill you in on the history of it, if you ask. I stay 10 mins away from there. I enjoy walking there weekly. I love the scene. You can see the entire town, ocean and all!

Interesting history here, but you have to work to get it.... read up before you go to the site, and make an effort to speak to the guide ( he is very patient with those of us who speak " tourist Spanish" ) in order to learn more, as there is no signage.

Average Colonial ruins, about a km. from the town centre, with a good view of the town and the distant Pacific. The mosquitoes take no prisoners; douse yourself with Off! if you don't want instant chikungunya!

It's a must-see. And you have to carry fly repellent. They're very aggressive. Another thing, next to what was the church is a huge, very imposing tree. I'd love to know what kind of tree it is. Nowhere have I seen it mentioned. :(
