We used Vista tours as it was half the price of Nexus in the hotel lobby. It was a fabulous tour visiting 3 towns in the mountains. Our air conditioned bus was comfortable and our guide outstanding. We visited a quaint bakery ,a ceramic place and a clay pottery place. The meal in Copala was quite good and the scenery... More

We took a tour from our hotel to Copala and stopped at several places on the way to watch local artisans working. We saw woodworkers and tile makers and when we got to the village we were fascinated by the square and the buildings. The route took us through some very beautiful countryside.

We spend our winters here though we also enjoy the summers and rainy season. Copala is an old Spanish mining town dating from the mid 1500's. The church was completed in the mid 1700's. Daytime finds many tourists coming to view the village with its cobblestone streets but evenings it reverts to a small local village. It's less than an... More

We did this originally several years ago as a small group van tour. Decided to drive out from Mazatlan with friends and show them a village. It is about an hours drive on a decent road. We had no issues with the travel and enjoyed seeing this wonderful church from the 1700s that has been restored. You can walk the... More

We went there in 2015. It was a very nice day trip. We stopped at a potters shop on the side of the road and watched them make clay pottery, it was fun. The town of Copala was very quaint with a beautiful 18th century church in the center of town. The people were great. Like everywhere in Mexico they... More

Great trip just east of Mazatlan worth the time and effort. We went in our own vehicle, but it is possible to hire a vehicle or use one of the tour companies. An interesting village with a large artisan population, a fascinating architectural spread, a wonderful historic church, (beware of the loose handrails, or you could end up some distance... More

I planned to travel there by bus only to learn that there was no return bus that day. My plan was to spend the day and explore and paint. Subsequently I went on a tour which I would not recommend. Short stops in various villages, led to 'shopping opportunities'. Ultimately, I was glad I did go because it is out... More

Few people still live in the small village of Copala a little ways up from Mazatlán in the mountain. Beautiful cobble stone streets, the church with a hole in the floor probably due to a mine shaft below, delicious coconut pie and bird watching
