In Jan. 2007, we went on a boat tour of the Tres Palos lagoon to birdwatch. To arrange the tour, we basically just hopped in a cab at our hotel and told the driver what we wanted. The driver said it was no problem. He took us to a restaurant beside the lagoon. A couple of phone calls were made, and within a few minutes, a boat arrived.

The lagoon tour was outstanding. There are beautiful water lilies and uninhabited islands, and we went silently through areas of mangrove swamp to sneak up on the birds. We saw so many birds—water birds like egrets and herons, many different types of ducks, wild flamingos, and gorgeous kingfishers. Our guide, Guillermo, knew the names of all the birds in both English and Spanish. We also watched local people fishing and catching crabs in the lagoon. The tour was U.S. $45, and we really enjoyed it.

After the boat tour, we disembarked at La Isla del Chaneque, the palapa restaurant. It’s in a lovely location right on the water. Lunch was cheese and shark quesadillas, a huge plate of guacamole and chips, 2 waters, and 2 Pepsi Light—all for only 104 pesos. We enjoyed our afternoon at Tres Palos very much.

My experience was February 17th 2008 & we made prior arrangements with Sabastian Hernandez a professional guide to show us the sites for the day.

The Lagoon tour was 10.00 USD per person & lasted about 90 minutes. The wildlife was extremely abundant with many different species of birds & a very ample supply of fish. Our Guide was very knowledgable in the identification of the birds that inhabit this Lagoon as well as all the beautiful flowers & greenery that grows in this area.

The boat tour launches from where the restaurant Beto Gadoy is located in Barra Vieja. After returning from our excursion we headed over to Esmirna Del Mar for lunch & to enjoy the rest of the day swimming & relaxing.

We ordered Red Snapper Ala Talla which was out of this world along with some other appetizers & drinks for the rest of the afternoon. This location is a very nice little gem in Barra Vieja & my family & I enjoyed the day very much & highly recommend a day spent in this quiet section.

I would recommend Los BouBous, a family operated Lagoon tour operator, located on a canal leading into the Laguna de Tres Palos lagoon. Our group of 6 adults, plus tour guide enjoyed a leisurely 2.5 hour tour with Captain Felix and helper, Oliver. The pontoon’s canopy cover and comfortable seats plus a slight breeze ensured a very relaxing comfortable cruise as Felix showed points of interest including beautiful scenery, local fishermen, hundreds of birds and other wildlife as we cruised thru mangroves in the lagoon. At a designated spot, Oliver dived down to procure clay with special properties for clay facials. Clay was delicately applied to the faces of interested guests. Local legend suggests the facials will remove 15 years of wrinkles—not sure about that, but they did feel refreshing. Oliver also gave a presentation to teach the complexities of casting large fishing nets…much more difficult than it appeared as they were heavy. He also swam to pick long stemmed Lily’s from an island shore and Felix demonstrated the art of necklace making as he made lovely and amazingly complex Lily flower necklaces for each of the ladies in our group.

Our private tour was arranged by Roberto, from Roberto Alarcon Tours, who accompanied us on the pontoon and provided beverages and additional information on the history, geography, and wildlife of the protected jungle area. He was also helpful in translating complex questions to Felix on the communities that populate the protected area.

Nothing drives me crazier than visiting built o prefabricated places, therefore paddling or going on a boat through Tres Palos lagoon has been one of the most authentic, amazing, nurturing experiences in my life.
You can start the trip either in the famous Beto Godoy restaurant with local fishermen, who offer boat rides at low costs or getting a real experience from local boat riders in the lagoon.
They take you all the way East or West the lagoon to observe local fauna: blue crabs, snails, small alligators, shrimp, pelicans and other.
The lagoon is surrounded by forest habitat, which makes your trip worth visiting and highly enjoyable. The water has a light green color that turns aqua blue when you see it from the distance.
The flora you can see is simply spectacular: wild flowers, lotus flowers, and much more.
Highly recommendable, enjoyable and worth visiting experience!

Thanks to our friend and driver, Max Salinas, we made our way to laguna de Tres Palos for a trip on the lagoon. It was one of the most relaxing days ever, and the beauty of this place, the opportunities for photography, and the delightful meal after was well worth it. Rest. Los Bou Bous prepared a wonderful meal and we ate heartily!

We went with Roberto Alercon. He is simply amazing. He set us up with Captain Felix. We released sea turtles then had margaritas! We then had a tour of the lagoon with Captain Felix. It is a lovely, peaceful place. There were many birds to see and the water lilies were lovely. We jumped in the water and picked a water lily bouquet! We were also given water lily necklaces to wear. Captain Felix’s assistant collected the famous mud and we were given mud facials. The mud is said to take 10-15 years off. Sadly, I cannot verify this, but it was still really fun! We then ate lunch at a lovely restaurant on the beach that had wonderful fresh seafood. It was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend this tour with Roberto Alercon!!!

Just came back from a great visit to Tres Palos Lagoon. I was challenged to find an activity that interested my 4 older kids who all like different activities (22, 21, 19 and 13). We went out on a boat with our tour guide Roberto (robertoalarcontours) and 2 great local fisherman who provide tours and live on the lagoon. I have never witnesed nature up close and at its finest like this. We saw over a dozen variety of birds, the kids and I loved getting into the clay and enjoyed a full body mask and we ate at a wonderful restaurants sitting 50 feet from the ocean waves. The restaurant was "Esmirna del Mar" in Barra Vieja town (fisher mans villages) great red snapper fish cooked on the charcoal grill a la talla style or garlic style, hand make corn tortillas, salad, spanish rice, salsas, ,garlic shrimp, lobsters, and steaks or chicken cooked on the charcoal grill, all set-up your table under a typical cabaña on the beach in front of the ocean.

I still remember sitting around that table and seeing 5 happy faces (scored some big daddy and husband points!).

One of the nicest nature tour in Acapulco. Water taxi took us on the "jungle tour" weaving through the waterway seeing a lot of nice sea birds sitting patiently to prey on the fish (I suppose) and fishermen competing with them by casting nets all over the place, causing a bit of inconvenience as the boat needed to lift the motor/propeller each time we crossed the net in order to avoid damaging it. The whole area is surrounded by mangrove trees and a number of trees are infested with termites that built their nests on the branches. We got to this huge area full of water lilies or lotus flowers, the boat operator picked out a flower and with the long stem she managed to make a necklace out of it.
