The fort was built to protect the ships that went back and forth to the Filippines for over 300 years to protect them from pirates, etc. The trade between Asia and Mexico was spectacular. Mexico sent a lot of gold, silver, corn, beans, chiles and from China came silk, pottery, and lots more. The fort is spectacular.

Ok maybe its just because I am a bit of a history buff, but every museum in Acapulco is so proud to display their history. It seem really well captured in this area and is displayed in such an interesting manner. I can't rave enough of how well these museums are done. It is well worth your time to visit... More

I live in the east bay of Northern California by San Francisco and we have great museums that take hours to go through. But this museum is small and quaint and our guide, Elvira, made our tour fun and interesting by pointing out special features of the displays to the people of Acapulco. I really learned something!

What a wonderful idea! Put your history museum in an historic fort overlooking Acapulco Bay! This is a wonderful museum with interesting and fascinating exhibits and artifacts. Having it inside a historic structure just adds to the whole experience! Air-conditioned and well-kept this is a wonderful museum. One of the best I have seen!

I already reviewed this under the Fort of San Diego. I would love to go back and spend more time there. By the way, the signs are in English as well as Spanish

Before I entered this museum I (as a European) did not know much about the extensive trade between the Spanish colonies and Asia. Acapulco as one of the main centers of this Manila connection with the Philippines, Japon and China has an interesting story to tell about that time when the big Spanish ships crossed the Pacific Ocean which took...
