Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a colorful market with pinata stands, food stands, kitchen goods and restaurants. Make certain you visit the restaurant on the south end of the market....They make their own salsa and the torta was like none I've ever had. Plus the male owner speaks english!!! The smells and sounds...so much fun!!!

If you are a tourist don't go to this wonderful Mexican market.
This market is originally Mexican with no foreigners right now, please don't go if you are a tourist… the prices will increase, a Mc Donald will be built nearby and this wonderful market will be destroyed.
The small food stands serve delicious food, we love it there!

We stumbled upon this market while driving through TJ to cross back into the US. Great market. Traditional Mexican food (bulk SPICES, dried fruits and veggies, fresh exotic fruits, vegetables, cheeses); household items -- grinding stones, baskets, pinatas, clay cookers etc..(not what you'd find in WalMart -- and Yes, TJ has Walmarts now...). I love this place. If you are a foodie or love culture, you need to go. Hard to guess you're less than 10 miles from the US border and So. Cal.

If you are an adventurous traveler this is a place you must visit. Located on Zona del Rio easy access lots of transportation. Full of color and different smells there is food, fruits and vegetables candy stores. An explosion of colors with the handcrafted piñatas. Must try their fresh cut fruits and of course fresh coconuts. If you want to buy 1 or bulk this is the perfect spot. Many more things to mention you have to experience it. Parking lot available and public clean bathrooms. Come hungry !!

We find that if we have visitors to San Diego who want to see Tijuana, but don't have much time, this place is alway a great, fairly quick stop. There are some tourist type items, mexican food spices, candies, tortilla presses, party supplies, etc. The fruit and vegetables always look good but we don't risk bringing them back as I can never remember what is allowed and what isn't. I always buy the dried mango with chile, and friends visiting from Finland loved cooking with the Mole's they purchased.

I've always managed to find a parking space inside, even 2 days before Christmas. The spaces are small and it's crowded but that just adds to the charm of the place. Keep in mind that this is a working market. You will see a few tourist but mostly people buying food and party supplies. We love that about it but perhaps not for everyone.

Day trip with my wife. I've been to Tijuana many times but it was her first, but it's been over 10 years for me so I figured we'd take the pedestrian bridge to la revolucion and go from there. Holy crap! Things have changed. I was a little nervous until we finally reached the tourist street. That pedestrian bridge now looks like a scene out of "Mad Max". Didn't stay long at la revolucion. Guess I forgot how aggravating it was trying to drink a watered down margarita and have some one say "hey, Amigo...you want to buy a trinket?" every 30 seconds. My wife likes cooking and farmers markets, so we hopped a cab to Mercado. Ahhhh, so much better! Hardly anyone spoke English, but everyone left us alone to browse and shop. Bought a few things and had the best tacos ever at a little corner stand across the street. Next time I will skip the la revolucion and go straight to Mercado!

This market is a wonderful place to spend an hour in the morning, lunchtime or afternoon to escape the bland concrete of the city. You will see shops selling housewares for making a wide array of Mexican meals. But above and beyond that, the colorful mosaic of fresh produce, baked goods, herbs, spices and traditional sweets is fascinating. There are also some good counters to get a nice homemade, economical meal.

This mercado is mainly a food market. It's always great to see how the locals shop and what's for sale. There are so many different types of chilies and moles, for example, and lots of other things I didn't even recognize. Mexicans must really like sweets because there are lots of shops selling sweets. I was there a few days after Day of the Dead and there was a large Day of the Dead memorial in the center of the market with several D of the D figurines. There were also quite a few D of the D figurines in the shops. There are places to eat, too. You can really soak up Mexican culture here.
