I recently did a tour with the steam train. It has been a pleasure to discover a steam train in action. Feel and smell this machine, meet drivers, discuss with other visitors and discover Slovenian landscape.

We had a great trip! One of the more memorable things was when the accordion player was in our car and the people all were singing songs as he played. It was really fun. Scenery was splendid. Stops along the way allowed for stretch breaks...More

We took this trip in June and although the train journey was good we were left on our own in Gorizia with no information on where to go. Everything is closed on Saturdays so no-one to ask directions etc.

It was a very nice little trip in a very beautiful country. The train was beautiful and you could feel how it must have been traveling with a steam train one hundered years ago. Friendly staff

An enjoyable ride with lots of entertainment on the way. Clear info from the guard in Slovenian, German and English. There is a tourist information office at the station in Nova Gorica where you can get maps and helpful advice. We walked into Gorizia and...More

This was one of our highlights in Slovenia. A lot of fun to be on a real 1900’s steam engine. As you travel, you get covered in a lot of smoke from the train, but the entertainment is good and the vistas are beautiful. The...More

This is more than just a steam train journey through beautiful landscapes, although it certainly has all of that. You are greeted by immaculately turned out train guards, a shining locomotive and an accordion player which gives a great feel for the trip. Once you...More

Started from Jesenice just before 9; greeted by staff in early C20 costume and period 4-wheel coaches oozing charm. 06 018 on the front, blasting the gradients. Bring your goggles and hang out of the window (safely, obvs). Entertained by the Emperor & Mrs Emperor...More

Response from Steam Train B | Property representative |
It would be difficult because locomotive is stationed a bit further from the Jesenice train station.
I was hoping to leave Ljubljana early on 6 June and travel by bus to Franc. I was hoping to catch the cable car there - we are two older Australians so walking is not always easy for me, but okay if reasonably flat.. I thought we could catch the boat back to Ribcev Laz and have a quick look around then catch the bus to Bohinjska Bistrica. I want to do the Bohinj Rail trip to Nova Gorica and would like to go to Jesenice and then back to Lake Bled. The problem I have is the trains spends too much time in Jesenice to then go to Bled. Would I miss very much if we got out at Bled Jerico instead of going all the way through? We want to stay in Bled the night to explore Lake Bled the same day. The next day we plan to catch the train to Vienna at 8.13 am. Is this doable? I have looked at train times and the train spends hours in Jesenice, making it difficult to see all of this. I originally planned to see Ljubljana then take the normal Behinj rail route as the steam train is not working on that day. With more reading I would love to fit in Lake Behinj, but is this possible? Sorry to complicate things. If the trains ran closer together I believe it is possible, as we do this sort of thing all the time, but not sure it is practical. I cannot find the bus timetables to see how things link up that way. It is a pity the trains are not conducive to such travel. Mind you I always seem to stretch things. Thank you for answering my other questions. Very Much appreciated. Happy 2018. We are really looking forward to seeing Slovenia. Not many Australian seem to do that. With thanks,Carolyn We would get out of the train at Bled Jezero but need to catch the train back to Vienna from Leste-Bled. Hubby is very concerned we will not be able to catch a taxi from our hotel to Leste-Bled in the early morning.
