We bought a tour package that included a guided tour of the museum, lunch at the restaurant, a tour of the native village and a jewelry making session. I am glad we did it all. The museum is fascinating, with many artifacts. The tour guide was very soft spoken and didn’t speak English well, so at times it was difficult to understand her. But her enthusiasm and love of the history of the tribe helped bridge the gap in communication. Lunch was three courses and delicious. I had the haddock, which was artfully prepared. The highlight was the guided tour of the native site. Our guide, Brian, was knowledgeable, answered all our questions, and took as much time as we needed to see everything. Then it was back to the original site for a jewelry making session with Isabell. I fell in love with her! Super friendly, very personable, she explained the symbolism of the different animals and the colors of the wooden and glass beads. My husband and I wore them home through three airports, proud of what we had made. My husband especially liked getting the medicine wheel, as he is facing some challenges in the next months. It brought him some comfort. Thank you, Isabell! Only negative was nothing was explained in advance as to exactly what was scheduled for when, where we were to go from one experience to the next. We felt a bit adrift. The bus driver added nothing to the experience. He drove the bus and didn’t explain anything unless asked specific questions. I got the impression he didn’t want to speak English, because he conversed with the French speaking passengers, but provided no translation.…

Kwe, We are pleased to know that your experience has lived up to your expectations. You have taken a shuttle package which is very popular in high season and much appreciate. We take note of your suggestion regarding the proper dissemination of the changes of locations during the day and we will ensure that our reception coordinators provide the information in detail. For the shuttle driver, it is true that he gives very little information that unfortunately is not aware of our culture and the packages offered because he is not one of our employees, he is employed by our service provider. I understand your point, and we could think of a way to inform our clients a little more before they arrive. Tiawenhk, entïio’ chia’ önenh! (Thank you, have a good day and see you soon)

The bus from Quebec City is only $10 to go to wendake. It drops you off at a hotel in the town that has a museum charting the progress of the First Nations in the area. More interesting they have a long house in the grounds that you can look around and a short but very pretty walking trail by the river. Not much else in the town that is of interest - just the things you would expect if any town ( schools, shops etc). But good to get away from the city . Especially if a cruise line has docked and disgorged thousands into the old town! An hour and a half there was enough. The bus there and back efficient. Good coffee served in the hotel restaurant.…

Kwe (hello), We are pleased to have welcomed you to Wendake and to have introduced you to the history of the Huron-Wendat. Note that in Old Wendake we have some craft shops and a First Nations bookstore. We hope to see you again soon and why not a night at the Hotel-Museum First Nations. Tiawenhk, entïio’ chia’ önenh! (Thank you, have a good day and see you soon)

First off, Uber will be able to take you here but not get you back so if you haven’t booked a tour, you will need to organise a taxi. The signage is not very clear as services are inside larger buildings so they can be hard to find. The Information Centre is inside the hotel and I would suggest going there first for a guide of what you can do. Any workshops must be pre-booked. I would recommend getting tickets for the museum that includes access to the long house outside. However the lady in the gift shop didn’t seem to have any cultural knowledge whatsoever. The waterfalls are quite pretty and there is a walking trail along there. There are some good little shops on the main street.…

Kwe, Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. It is true that the signage is slightly difficult to get to the hotel but we are working on it. Know that in high season we have a shuttle service that makes the trip between Old Quebec and Wendake at several times during the day. You can also find out about the different packages and schedules on our website and will therefore be easier to plan your visit. We hope to welcome you again soon and make you discover even more the history and culture of Huron-Wendat, which is worth visiting.

We were not too keen on going to Wendake, worried that there would be actors dressed as the native Canadians. This is definitely not the case, we were taken around by a young guide who explained the life and history of the Wendake inhabitants and answered all our questions The museum is very well presented and full of interesting objects. There is also a visit of a tical home and garden.…

We visited Wendake with 7 children ages 6 - 14. They all enjoyed it! We paid for the package that included the audio tour of the museum which is housed in the same building as the hotel. The children were engaged in using the audio equipment, selecting how much information they wanted to listen to for each display. They were also engaged with the computer information. We all enjoyed the replica of the long house ad stayed exploring that for about a half hour. The highlight of the visit was the excellent meal in the the restaurant which was included in the package we purchased. The servers were very attentive and especially good with the children and the food was excellent! The only downside was the difficulty in finding the attraction in the confusing street of the Wendat settlement.…
