Great place and great exhibits
Feb. 2020
It's all in French and not in any other languages.
Set in a picturesque mansion with beautiful grounds, it's a great exhibition with many fantastic art works on display.

Interesting, but need to be able to read French and some some prior knowledge of French History
Aug. 2019
An interesting, if somewhat esoteric museum. On our visit the audioguides were broken, which was a shame. Entry is free. The collection is primarily art based, but is not laid out in any sort of chronological order, and the captions/information is only in French language. Interesting, but only if one is interested in French history. I would not recommend this place for the casual visitor or for children (who will be bored). The gardens outside are also lovely.

French Revolution, interesting also for foreigners
Jul. 2019 • Family
It's quite remarkable that the French Revolution, which had such an impact on Europe and inspired for better or worse so many people, has its museum in this small city of Vizille in Dauphiné.

It benefits from paintings from national museums, and the quality of both the collections and the building make it interesting for French as for foreigners.

The only downside is that the museum closes for lunch for 1 hour, which is quite annoying as this museum is typically something you visit on a day when you are travelling.

An excellent overview of the French revolution
Jun. 2019 • Couples
We loved the way this permonent exposition of the French Revolution guides you through the times. Beautifully arranged, excellent explanation by the guides on your free audio guide and impressive surroundings. Worth a visit, glad we have got there. And it is FREE!,

A magical Park, A Beautiful castle, A great Museum
Oct. 2018
We spent the first hour Just walking in the wonderful park. If only the weather was better, we would have had a magical pick-nick there. The castle is one of the most impressive we've seen, and the museum itself was a great way to experience the french revolution through art.

Shhh. It’s a Secret.

I do not speak French and so found this museum pretty much inaccessible. We arrived shortly before noon, and so it was too late to get a headset in English. But we were able to browse and did find amazing art and story presented, but not one word on the descriptions were in any language but French. So we seemed to be in a treasure chest unable to touch a thing.

Very interesting collection

Situated within the Chateau de Vizille, the museum presents events from the end of the Ancien Regime until the beginning of the Third Republic as seen through the eyes of artists, some favorable, some against the revolution.

Great museum and gorgeous surrounding park

... but don't take your kids. They don't really like those little creatures. Behaving really well, but walking on their bare feet and giggling a bit about the genitals on display: "You have to be dressed to visit the museum."
